The weather Friday, Jan. 30, switched between snowfall, cold temperatures, and sunshine. Over the weekend, although the mornings and nights were still chilly, temperatures warmed up into the mid-to-upper 40s in the afternoon and early evenings.
Winter was predicted to stick around for six more weeks after Punxsutawney Phil, the famous Pennsylvania groundhog, saw his shadow Monday. Although Phil has predicted more winter weather, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) stated in a Feb. 2 news release that Phil has gotten the forecast correct 30 percent of the time over the past 10 years.
Last year, after Phil predicted another six weeks of winter, February and March saw above-average temperatures. NOAA’s prediction for Feb. 8-12 shows an above-normal temperature, while the precipitation outlook for Nebraska leans above normal.
