Sixty-two (& a half) teams golf in Deweese Redneck Tournament

The Jim Sykora Memorial Redneck Miniature Golf Tournament was Sunday, Feb. 15 in and near Deweese, with 62 ½ teams joining in to golf on a beautiful February day.

While most golfed, others joined in to support the cause via the auctions and outright donations, etc.

The Golf Committee, helpers, and many of the participants have felt all too well this past year how devastating the word “Cancer” is. It has hit many of us with: “You have cancer”, “Your relative has cancer” “Your neighbor, friend, relative, passed away”. We had amazing support in memory of those losing their battle to cancer, honoring those fighting or in remission.

A delicious meal was served.

The Live and Silent Auctions were great successes.

Among the golf weapons this year were: Putter, Hoop Toss, Frozen Turkey, Toilet Paper Roll; Dog Do (fake of course); Disc Golf; “Liberty Creek Limbs” Prosthetic Leg; Blowing Out Candles, Sand Green; Nerf Gun; Rubber Duck; Roulette Roll, and a Fishing Pole.

Golf winners were determined by playing Plinko. The ribbon made (colors of cancer) determined your flight; the number made placed you in your flight.

Golf Winners: Championship Flight: first Aleyna Curry and Micah Biltoft; second Cherri Murman and Patti Mann; third Peyton Traudt and Gabby Schmidt; fourth Fred and Bev Cuba.

First Flight: first Amy Augustin and Tricia Allen; second Lisa Streit and Shanda Watts; third Doug and Connie Porter; fourth Don Kohmetscher and Steve Smith.

Second Flight: first Doug and Ginger Howell; second Landyn and Marcia Howell; third Zach Zikmund and Kristin Hansen; fourth Travis Fraser and Brady Hinrichs.

Third Flight: first Josh Morehead and Zach Armes; second Jaeden Traudt and Jamie Schmidt; third Michelle Galaway and Cheyanne Zikmund; fourth Dawn Kucera and Jody McCleary.

50/25/25 Split the Pot was won by: Dirk Johnson and Kyle Joy.

Kyle Joy tries his hand at casting a fishing lure into a pool during the Jim Sykora Memorial Sykora Redneck Golf Tournament Sunday.

Poker hands were accommodated a bit differently this year; players drew five cards; rolled a dice to determine how many they had to discard; and then drew back to five cards.

Championship Flight: first Wyatt Crutchfield – Flush; second Curt Keeler – Flush; third John Whitloch – Straight.

First Flight: first Jake Veik – 3/Kind A’s; second Konrad Koehler 3/Kind A’s; third Doug Porter 3/Kind 8’s; Second Flight: first Kathy Koehler; second David Sweeley; third Monty Koehler – All had a Pair/Q’s.

Once again folks were very generous with nearly all of the winnings being donated back.

The proceeds from the event are split: 50 percent to St. Jude (Jim’s favorite charity); and the other 50 percent split between three Local Cancer Centers to aid patients as needed: Brodstone, Superior, Morrison Cancer Center, Hastings, Nebraska Cancer Specialists, Hastings, Superior, and Aurora.

Follow our Facebook Page: Deweese Golf Tournament; and watch for the “15th Annual” date (TBD). Thank you, and see you next year!
