By earning the right to host the Class D1-2 Sub-District tournament, by virtue of earning the top-seed in the tournament, the Sutton Fillies wasted very little time establishing their dominance over the first-round opponent, Deshler.

Sutton’s offense and defense all but shut down the Dragons play all the way around the court Tuesday, Feb. 17, claiming a 46-point, 59-13 win to advance to the championship game with Tri County.

Sutton outscored Deshler 22-3 in the first quarter and 21-5 in the second frame to claim a 43-8 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Fillies backed off the gas pedal, outscoring the Dragons 16-5 to secure the 59-13 victory.

Kali White led all scorers with 12 points. Jadlynn Kinney hit for 11, Isabella Trejo, nine, while Miranda Nuss and Kyla Griess both had, six.

Rounding out the scoring were Avery Smith with five, Camden Mau and Julie Smith with four each, and Addison George with two.

Sutton shot at a 44 percent clip, making 19 of 43 total shots, including a 6-18 effort from three-point range (33.3%) At the foul line, Sutton was 15-23 (65.2%).

Defensively, the Fillies held Deshler to just 30 shots on goal, with the Dragons making five, a 16.7 percent outing. Deshler was 0-12 from three-point range, and just 3-8 at the foul line (37.5%).

Sutton held a dominating 31-18 rebounding edge over the Dragons, with four Fillies gaining five rebounds, including Nuss, Kamryn Steinhauer, Mau, and White.

Emma Scheidemann grabbed three boards, while Griess gained two.

Griess also dished out three assists in the win, while Trejo, White, and Kinney gained three steals each.

Sutton forced 23 Deshler turnovers.
