The Harvard boys track and field team had a balanced day of action at the Overton Invitational, Tuesday, April 21, gaining a total of nine medals, four during field events and five on the track.
In field events, sophomore Pedro Perez secured a personal best 11-foot vault in the pole vault to win the event over two Twin Loup vaulters, Noah Lamb and Jackson Hall, who also cleared the 11-foot barrier, but by way of fewer misses, Perez gained gold.
In the discus, Blayden Porter placed sixth with a 100’ 7” throw. Event winner, Landon Eckoff of Axtell, earned the win with a 125’ 1” toss.
Edwin Oliva-Renderos grabbed sixth place in the long jump with a 15’ 2.75” leap. South Loup’s Dylan Pandorf won with a 19’ 10.5” jump.
Oliva-Renderos also placed sixth in the triple jump, hitting the 30’ 7” mark. Overton’s Brock McCarter claimed gold with a 41’ 7.25” leap.
On the track for Harvard, Brextyn Kobza gained a pair of fourth-place finishes in the two hurdle events.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Kobza finished with a time of 18.83 seconds, while event winner Emmet Grint of Twin Loup hit the finish line in a time of 16.45 seconds.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Kobza’s fourth-place time was clocked at 45.58 seconds. Grint also claimed gold in this race with a time of 41.81 seconds.
Perez, coming off his gold medal win in the pole vault, added a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 20.15 seconds. Event winner, Elijah Cool of South Loup, earned the win with a time of 5:02.01.
Harvard’s 4x100-meter relay team, made up of Ethan Porter, Sebastian Rodriguez, Frederico de Gues, and Blayden Porter, finished fourth with a time of 56.41 seconds. Twin Loup cashed in for gold with a time of 46.75 seconds.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Kobza, Westen Niemoth, Oliva-Renderos, and Perez finished fifth with a time of 4:21.43. South Loup earned the win with a time of 3:48.27.
