Grace Eckhardt begins new role with the Clay Co. Extension

From lifelong 4-H member to Extension office:

For Grace Eckhardt, stepping into her new position as Office Manager with Clay County Extension feels less like starting something new and more like giving back to something that helped shape her life.

Eckhardt recently began her role with Nebraska Extension and brings with her a deep love for agriculture, youth development, and especially 4-H, a program she says played a major role in who she has become today.

“Agriculture and 4-H have always been a huge part of my life,” Eckhardt said. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to now give back to a program that helped shape me into who I am today.”

Eckhardt was actively involved in 4-H for 14 years, participating in livestock projects, leadership activities, community involvement, and agricultural events throughout her youth. During those years, she showed livestock, attended fairs and shows, built friendships with fellow 4-H members, and developed skills that continue to guide her today.

She said 4-H helped teach her responsibility, communication, time management, leadership, and the importance of hard work, but beyond the skills themselves, it also created some of her favorite memories.

“Some of my best memories came from showing livestock, connecting with fellow 4-Hers, and growing alongside other youth who shared similar passions,” she said.

Her passion for the organization remains strong, especially because of the opportunities she believes it gives young people.

“4-H played a major role in helping me discover my love for agriculture and working with youth,” Eckhardt said. “It gave me confidence, life skills, and lifelong friendships.”

Now, she hopes to help provide those same experiences for the next generation of Clay County youth.

Nebraska Extension provides a variety of programs and resources throughout the county, including youth development through 4-H, agricultural education, family and consumer sciences programs, and community outreach opportunities.

As office manager, Eckhardt’s responsibilities will include assisting community members, supporting Extension staff and programs, helping organize events and communications, and work- and volunteers throughout the year.

“What excites me the most about this position is the chance to work with youth, families, and agricultural programs while continuing to grow within a field I care deeply about,” she said.

Eckhardt said she also hopes to help make the Extension office a welcoming and encouraging place where community members feel supported and connected.

Outside of work, she enjoys golfing, attending livestock shows, spending time with friends and family, staying active in agriculture, and spending time with her corgi, Oliver.

As she begins her new role, Eckhardt says she is thankful for the opportunity and excited to serve the people of Clay County through Nebraska Extension and the 4-H program she has loved for most of her life.
