After weeks of waiting for meaningful spring moisture, farmers, landowners and residents across Clay County received more rain than they bargained for as heavy storms drenched the area last week. Nearly 10 inches of rain fell in Sutton alone, swelling School Creek to nearly halfway up its banks on both Tuesday and Friday. Approximately 3.6 inches of rain fell June 2, followed by another 2 inches by late afternoon June 4. A final round of storms on June 5 dropped an additional 3.6 inches, bringing Sutton’s weekly rainfall total to nearly 10 inches since the overnight downpour on June 2. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS
