A huge piece of Clay Center’s landscape and history is being demolished by a Kearney Construction firm, Morten Construction. The school, which holds deep roots, memories and history for the Clay Center community, began to come down early last week. The newest wing of the school will remain, housing a daycare center. Education in Clay Center began in 1890 with a subscription school. The district later consolidated with Sandy Creek Public Schools after the 2010 school year.
