The Lovgren family was recognized with the AKSARBEN Pioneer Farm Family Award during the 2026 Clay County Fair. The Pioneer Farm Family Award recognizes Nebraska farm families that have owned and actively farmed at least 40 acres of land within the same family for 100 consecutive years. More than a recognition of longevity, the award celebrates the dedication, perseverance and stewardship that have helped preserve Nebraska’s agricultural heritage from one generation to the next.
According to family information, Floyd Lovgren, the youngest son of Charles and Johanna Lovgren, was born May 6, 1901. He married Edna Brenneman in 1925, and the following year the couple moved to the family farm east of Harvard. There they raised livestock, welcomed five children, and spent 51 years caring for the land before moving into Harvard in 1977. Floyd passed away in 1981, followed by Edna in 1989.
Today, the farm is owned by Floyd and Edna’s grandchildren, continuing a family legacy that has spanned more than a century. The farm’s continued place in the family reflects the values the Pioneer Farm Family Award was created to recognize.
The award was accepted in memory of Floyd and Edna Lovgren by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, honoring a legacy of hard work, family and dedication that continues to this day by their family.
