Following a two-game split in the first two rounds of the Class C Area-6 District baseball tournament in Loomis, the Sutton Senior Legion baseball team had to use a little magic to extend their 2026 baseball season Sunday, July 26,. A two run double by Cash Parrish in the top of the seventh inning and an additional run in the same half of the last inning kept Sutton’s post-season alive and well, outscoring Cambridge- Arapahoe 3-1 in the seventh frame to secure a come-from-behind 4-3 win and improve to 22-10 on the year.
Cambridge-Arapahoe scored a single run the first, fourth and sixth innings, while Sutton scored once in the fifth frame to give Cambridge-Arapahoe a 3-1 lead going into the seventh inning. Sutton’s last-minute heroics hit, with DJ Hajny and Kaige Jones scoring on Parrish’s double to center field after Weston Ohrt came home on a free pass to set the Mustangs up with the 4-3 lead and eventual win.
Sutton was out-hit 8-5 in the game, but a Michael Lockhart home run in the fifth inning, combined with the Parrish double was all that was needed for Sutton to be able to complete the win.
Hajny was 2-3 at the plate with a pair of singles. Lockhart gained the home run in the fifth, while Parrish’ double in the top of the seventh and an Ohrt single rounded out the Sutton hitting efforts.
Cale Nuss started the pitching for Sutton. In four and two-thirds innings of work, Nuss allowed two runs on five hits, while walking six and striking out 10, as Nuss threw 105 total pitches in the game.
River Glinsmann allowed one runs in the sixth, and gave up three hits, while walking just one.
Payton Reed closed out the big win in the bottom of the seventh inning. Reed walked one, struck out two without giving up a hit or a run.
Sutton was to take on Loomis Monday night at 7 p.m. for a spot in the championship game of the tournament.
