Tractor drive, parade and bus tour will revisit Harvard’s World War II history

On Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, participants in the Old Trusty Annual Tractor Drive will leave the Clay Center Fairgrounds around 2:45 p.m. The tractors will arrive in downtown Harvard at approximately 2:45 p.m. to form a parade, drive by the nursing and assisted living facility, visit the Harvard Museum and then head to the Harvard Air Field for a tour.

Several organizations are coordinating this tractor drive and parade to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Harvard’s Veterans Wall. After the air base tour concludes, the tour group will return downtown for the rededication program at 6 p.m., followed by a free-will meal. It was also announced that the price of memorial bricks honoring veterans has been reduced from $150 to $100.

Harvard Public School has graciously provided a bus for this one-time tour. The tour bus will leave from downtown Harvard at 5 p.m. for those who wish to learn more about this important part of local history.

The tour will include an inside view of the massive remaining hangar, a reminder of World War II and the role the air base played in the area. Scott Stemper, a former Harvard resident, graduate, and historical enthusiast, will share information about the base and its impact on the community. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to take part in this special event honoring Harvard’s history, veterans, and community spirit.
