Letter to the editor

Letter to the Editor, Keep township government in Clay County.

The Clay County Board of Supervisors have voted to again place on the ballot of the upcoming General Election the question to discontinue township organization.

In 2024, the Supervisors placed the same question on the ballot. The vote was 1,395 for, and 1,565 against discontinuing township organization. Therefore, the county still has township board members.

We believe the townships should continue to serve with members so they still have a say on local decisions.

If discontinued, the Supervisors could then function as Commissioners and make “all” decisions for the Clay County township.

Take time to read “township government: What Clay County’s 16 townships do, and who serves them” article that ran on the front page of the August 26, 2026 Clay County News.

We ask that you vote to keep and not do discontinue township boards by voting “against” dissolution of townships which appears on the General Election ballot for November 3, 2026.

When voting on the ballot, please remember to “completely darken the oval” beside any vote you make, even if you enter a write-in candidate. Otherwise, that vote “will not” be counted.

Anyone wishing to be a write-in candidate must register with the Clerk’s office by October 23, 2026. No one will be counted as a write-in if they have not registered. Eldorado Township Write-In Candidates
