Sutton Livestock Barn celebrated 11 years under the Kimminau family Oct. 9 with a special livestock auction, drawing approximately 50 buyers from across Nebraska.

Attendees came from Gage, Clay, Fillmore, Hamilton, Hall, Nuckolls, Franklin, York and Holt counties, reflecting the barn’s reach as a regional marketplace and gathering place for producers.

As the auction got underway, livestock entered the sale ring individually and in small groups. By the end of the day, approximately 550 animals had passed through the ring.

Beyond buying and selling, the auction provided an opportunity for producers to visit with neighbors, exchange knowledge and maintain connections within the agricultural community.

Livestock auctions give producers a place to evaluate, buy and sell animals. They also bring together people from different operations and communities, supporting an industry that remains an important part of Nebraska’s economy and rural life.

The Kimminau family took over Sutton Livestock Barn in October 2015, continuing a local livestock market with a history stretching back decades. For Ed and Kim Kimminau, the anniversary marked 11 years of serving area producers and building relationships with buyers and sellers.

While the turnout and livestock numbers marked a busy anniversary sale, the gathering also reflected the barn’s continued place in the agricultural community. As it begins another year under the Kimminau family, Sutton Livestock Barn remains a place where business and personal connections come together.
