Clay County moves forward with courthouse repairs

Third-floor plaster repairs and heating and cooling maintenance are among the recent projects approved for the Clay County Courthouse.

The work includes a repair proposal from AL’s Old House Repairs LLC, along with separate agreements covering cleaning and annual maintenance of the courthouse’s heating and cooling equipment.

The plaster repairs followed a visit by AL’s Old House Repairs to assess problems on the building’s third floor. Supervisors unanimously accepted the company’s repair and improvement proposal Aug. 25, requesting that repairs be made as soon as possible.

Richard Shaw made the motion to accept the proposal, with Scott Bitterman providing the second. All seven supervisors supported the action.

An $11,100 claim from AL’s Old House Repairs LLC for third-floor repair work appeared in the county’s Sept. 22 claims list under the Inheritance Fund. The listing does not specify whether that amount represents the full project cost or a portion of the work.

An update on courthouse roof repairs and plaster restoration was scheduled for the board’s Oct. 13 meeting. Further details about the scope and completion schedule were not available in the records reviewed.

Separate from the plaster repairs, supervisors approved a $10,017 agreement with CERRIS Systems on Sept. 15 to clean the waterside of the courthouse’s chiller evaporator, a component of its cooling system.

James Pavelka made the motion to approve the agreement, seconded by Shaw. The measure passed unanimously.

The board subsequently approved an annual maintenance agreement with CERRIS for the courthouse’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. That agreement totals $5,726 and received unanimous approval Sept. 29, following a motion by Glen Becker and a second by Bitterman.

Together, the two approved heating and cooling agreements total $15,743. That amount does not include the $11,100 claim listed for thirdfloor repairs.
