Sutton resident Rosalie M. Peter passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, NE, at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 21 days. Rosary was 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sutton, NE. Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014, at the church with Father William Holoubek officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation was Wednesday, from 1 p.m.-4:00 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Condolences may be left at Rosalie Mildred Peter was born on September 5, 1916, to Walter J. and Catherine E. (Sanders) Joyce. She was the thirteenth child in the family. She was born and lived in rural Clay County near Harvard, NE. She graduated from Harvard High School in 1933. After graduation, she took normal training and then taught at Rock School District 38 (Clay County), south of Sutton, for four years. On February 18, 1939, she married Ernest W. Kamler and they lived on a farm in the Shickley area. They spent a year or so in California in the dry years. To this union, three daughters were born, Mary Catherine, Betty Lou and Patricia Ann. In 1967, they bought a house in Sutton, NE, and moved. Ernest passed away on August 29, 1970. Rose continued to live in Sutton and worked various jobs. She cleaned rooms at the Sutton Motel and also worked as a waitress at Becker's Cafe and the Skyliner. On October 6, 1973, she married Arthur T. Peter, better known as Potsie. They lived in Sutton. Art passed away on March 19, 1996. Rose was a resident of the Nolde Center in Sutton for several years. She was a good neighbor and kept an eye on them, even though she was older. We will all remember her as an excellent cook, especially her fried chicken and cinnamon rolls. In January of 2010, she moved to the Sutton Community Home as her health began to fail. She was a resident at the time of her passing. She was a fine lady and will be missed by many. She leaves us with many memories to cherish. Rose was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Mary's church in Sutton. She was an active member of the Altar society. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, daughter Patricia Lautt, grandson Lee Allen Lautt, granddaughter Amy Himmelberg, great-grandson Jay Paul Denkert, son-in-law Don Lauenstein, 16 brothers and sisters, step-son Dick Peter and step-daughter Belva Jean Wondra. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Norman) Tesar, of Geneva, NE, and Betty (Robert) Himmelberg, of Lawrence, NE. Six-grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, brother Joe (Terry) Joyce of NY, step-son Jim (Jo) Peter from Michigan and a friend, Phyllis Dowding of Waverly, NE.
