Former Clay Center resident Verne Dedrickson, 88, passed away Monday, October 27, 2014, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, NE. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Clay Center Christian Church, in Clay Center, NE, with Rev. Kevin Whitmore officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be directed to the donor’s choice. Condolences may be left at Verne was born November 9, 1925, to Martin and Esther (Nelson) Dedrickson in Clay County, NE. He attended country school until the Eighth grade and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1943. He was a lifelong farmer, spent several winters working with a packing house in Omaha, NE, and had also worked for a custom harvest company. On September 2, 1947, he married Laura D. DeRiese and to this union, four children were born. Verne was an avid sportsman and trap shooter. He was inducted nto the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in June of 2012. He was a member of the Clay Center Volunteer Fire Department, the NRA and the American Trap Shooting Association. He is survived by his son, Gary, and wife Barb Dedrickson of Clay Center, NE; daughters, Beva Davis and Debra Robinson, both of Aurora, NE; grandchildren, Jodi Patrick of Farmington, CT; Emily Cory of Joplin, MO; Cody Davis of Aurora, NE; Shannon Nichole Robinson of Geneva, NE; Patrice Robinson of Hastings, NE; five great-grandchildren and numerous nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; infant daughter, Judy Kay; two brothers, Warren and Martin Jr.; and one sister, Charlotte.
