After coming off a 19-12 season in 2013, the Sutton Fillies, under the direction of new coach Adam Kuntz, turned a big corner in 2014. They advanced to their first state tournament appearance since 2009, and amassed 27 wins against just six losses at season’s end, following a tough four set loss to Freeman in the first round of the Class C-2 State Tournament. Of the six losses, three would come to state tournament teams, including the season ending loss to Freeman and a pair of losses to the 2014 Class C-1 State Champion, Kearney Catholic. Another loss would come at the hands of a Class B state qualifier, Aurora. Fillmore Central and Heartland would be the only other losses the Fillies would suffer. Along the way, Sutton won three tournament titles, using four wins to take gold at the Cross County Invite on Sept. 20, as well as winning their home invite on Oct. 4, with three wins.
