Martin “Marty” Allen Harrison peacefully passed into Heaven on December 31, 2014, at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 17 days , while surrounded by the love of his former wife, Sharlene, their daughter, Kim, and her boyfriend, Lee, in Lincoln, NE. As he requested, Marty will be cremated. All who knew him are invited to a “Party for Marty” to celebrate his life on Saturday, January 10, at 2 p.m., at the Fox Hollow club house in Sutton, NE. An honor guard will be present to give Marty a final military salute. Memorials can be sent to 3027 N. Cotner Blvd., Lincoln,NE 68507, and will be used to purchase a tree and/or memorial bench for the Fox Hollow Golf Course where Marty was happiest. Marty was born in Lincoln on July 15, 1951, to Robert “Bob” Cornell and Althea “Teddy” (Foote) Cornell Harrison. He and his siblings, Paul, Sylvia and Mike, were later adopted by Stanley Harrison. Early in his childhood, Marty and his family moved to York, NE, where he had many adventures with his brothers and became active in Future Farmers of America (FFA). Upon graduating in 1969, Marty enlisted in the Navy and was based in California. After he was honorably discharged from his 7-year, 8-month Naval service, he married Sharlene (Kittelson) Harrison in 1977 in Sparks, NV. They later welcomed their daughter, Kimberly Harrison, in 1979. In 1982, they, along with Sharlene’s daughter, Colene, moved from Fremont, CA, to Fairmont, NE, where they briefly lived with his parents. Soon after, they settled in York, NE. Marty worked at numerous jobs in York before finding his true calling as superintendent of the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Sutton, NE. He dedicated 17 years to cultivating a gorgeous, highly regarded course until, due to his health, he resigned in early 2014 . Marty ’s passion for his profession made him happy to wake up each morning, and he never thought of his job as work. He loved the people of Sutton and considered it as good a home as he ever had. Marty loved talking to people and making them laugh, as well as spending time with friends and family. Those who knew Marty can attest to his love for waxing philosophical, cracking jokes, debating, watching movies, sports and The Weather Channel, playing card and board games, bowling, all things golf, and spending quality time with Kim and her family. He also cherished time with his siblings. He once told his brother, Mike, that he was not only his brother, he was his best friend, too. Marty was so thankful to spend one more summer golfing at Fox Hollow with Mike in 2014. Memories of Marty will live on in the hearts of his daughter, Kim, her boyfriend, Lee Risser, and his son, Logan, of Lincoln; former wife, Sharlene of Lincoln; step-daughter, Colene (Shane) Mason and their four daughters, Taylar, Gabby, Laney, and Ella of Lincoln; father, Stanley, Harrison of Fairmont, NE; brothers, Paul (Donna) Harrison of Wichita, KS; and Mike (Diane) Harrison of Henderson, NE; and sister, Sylvia (David) Warren of York, NE; aunts, Orpha (Floyd) Foote of West Concord, MN; and Ruth (Denzel) Harrison of York, NE. Marty also had many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grandnephews, and cousins, who he cherished. Marty was greeted in Heaven by his father, Bob, his mother, Althea, his six grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
