District Wrestling Begins Friday for Clay County Teams

Harvard, South Central Unified and Sutton will all enter action in their respective District Wrestling meets this Friday with the Cardinals heading to Midland University in Fremont for the D-1 District meet, while South Central and Sutton head north to Central City for action in the C-3 District meet.
D-1 District Meet

Harvard will be paired up with the following teams in their meet, hosted by Archbishop Bergan High School: Archbishop Bergan, Central Valley (Greeley-Wolbach, North Loup Scotia),  Freeman, Friend, Fullerton, Hastings St. Cecilia, High Plains Community, McCool Junction, Meridian, Nebraska Christian, Palmer, Palmyra, Riverside (Spalding, Cedar Rapids), Shelby-Rising City, Southern, Thayer Central, Tri County and Weeping Water.
The district in Fremont features 17 state ranked wrestlers according to the most recent ratings, last released, Feb. 10. Among those ranked is Harvard senior Dallas Doupnik, Jr., who is currently ranked sixth in the 220 pound class.
Wrestling in Fremont begins at 3 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Cardinals head to Fremont with six wrestlers, let by Doupnik in the 220 pound class. Doupnik owns a 19-6 record. Kale Fishler also enters the D-1 meet as a state meet hopeful, as the sophomore owns a 25-12 record in the 106 pound class.
Additionally, wrestling at districts will be: Skylar Meyer in the 126 pound class (2-23); Tucker Scherbarth in the 138 pound class (10-19); Auston Bell in the 152 pound class (1-18) and Gage Gering in the 160 pound class (2-27).
C-3 District Meet

For the Red Raiders and Mustangs, the C-3 District meet will feature a total of 23 state ranked wrestlers, according to the most recent Class C ratings, released Feb. 10.
Among those ranked wrestlers, three are from Clay County including unbeaten and top ranked Tyler Bailey of Sutton in the 132 pound class, Logan Searle of South Central Unified who is currently ranked second in the 195 pound class and Sutton’s Ignacio Rivera, who is currently ranked sixth in the 106 pound class.
Teams entered in the district with the two Clay County teams includes: Centennial, Central City, Centura, Cross County/Osceola, Doniphan-Trumbull, Fillmore Central, Gibbon, Grand Island Central Catholic, Red Cloud/Blue Hill, Shelton/Kenesaw, St. Paul, Superior, Wilber-Clatonia and Wood River.
Wrestling in Central City begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday.
For the Mustangs, Rivera heads into this weekend’s meet with a 38-3 record, while Bailey heads to Central City as the top ranked wrestler in the 132 pound class with a perfect 39-0 record.
The rest of the Mustangs entered to wrestle in Districts are as follows: 113- Anton Carlson (14-16); 120- Luke Hinrichs (5-23); 126- Chandler Stone (27-11); 138- Armando Ochsner (12-18); 145- Alex DeLarm (25-15); 170- Jered Lemkau (15-16); 182/195- Garrett Stone (28-9); 220/285- Kane Majors (26-12).
Searle leads the South Central Red Raiders into the C-3 District meet’s 195 pound class with an impressive 42-1 record.
Kaleb Shafer, while not rated, will vie for a trip to Omaha in the 138 pound class with his 34-9 record.
Additionally, South Central’s roster also includes: 145- Gavyn Buschkoetter (34-11); 152- Dallas Bruning (24-22); 160- Jimmy Mazour (34-8); 170- Greg Pavelka (14-26); 182- Ryan Haack (7-26); 220- Colt Rademacher (14-21); 285- Hunter Rempe 15-18).
