1991 Fillies to be Honored in Lincoln Sunday

Someone once told Sutton girls basketball head coach John Schoneberg: “Moments like winning a state championship will come at the least expected time,” he told reporter Daryl Blue of the Omaha World-Herald. “I never thought we’d be 26-0, especially with the two players who graduated from last year. I think this year showed what team work will do.”Schoneberg’s comments made back on March 2, 1991, came just moments after his Sutton Fillies held off a late rally from Crofton to earn the school’s first and only girls state basketball championship, with a 40-38 win over the Warriors.
