Two witnesses were called to testify at a preliminary hearing for Austin Petr, who was accused of stealing, with the intent of selling 28 head of cattle from Alan D. Johnson of Blue Hill in January 2017.

Johnson, a farmer, was one of the witnesses, stating he raises livestock—cows/calves—at 1615 Road U, near Blue Hill, where he resides. At the start of the testimony, it was noted by Johnson that he knew of Petr because he resided down the road from him, but had otherwise not completed business with him.

On Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, Johnson said he noticed a calf was out in the field and assumed his cattle had gotten out of their pen. It was then that he also noticed truck and trailer tracks around the pen area and contacted the Webster Sheriff’s Office.
