Sutton resident, Minnie Hofmann, 89, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton. Funeral services were 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 25, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment followed at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton. Visitation was Thursday, from 1–8 p.m., with the family present from 5–7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial.com. Minnie was born April 2, 1928, in Clay County, to Richard A. and Olanda Griess. Minnie received her education at District #8 country school in Stockham. On Aug. 23, 1950, she married Gilbert Hofmann in Aurora. They resided on their farm until 1979. Minnie was a loving mother to four children and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and Sutton Garden Club. She loved gardening and everyone admired her beautiful flowers. She was a wonderful cook and her family remembers her mock angel food cake, pickled peaches and lemon meringue pie. Minnie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lorraine and Lu-Ella Hofmann of Sutton; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Dave Griess of Sutton; and Barb and Ross Fisher of Fairfield; daughter-in-law, Jocelyn Hofmann; sister, Leona Rath; and sister-in-law, Anna Griess all of Sutton; brother-in-law, Pauly Griess of Grafton; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert; son, Robert Hofmann; grandson, Kevin Hofmann; granddaughter, Shannon Griess; and other family members.
