Barbara J. Nelson, 84, of Columbus, formerly of Clay Center, died Sunday, Sept. 17, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus. The funeral service was Wednesday, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment will be in the Clay Center Cemetery with Rev. Robert Garton officiating. Visitation was on Tuesday from 6–8 p.m., at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10–11 a.m. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Barbara was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Bloomington, to Fred and Alice (Shelton) Moser. She graduated from Clay Center High School in 1951 and then went to Hastings College. She was a teacher for a few years and then went to work as a secretary at the State Capital. She later also worked as a secretary at Bird Engineer - ing, Valmont, and Edward Jones. Barbara enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was secretary at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln where she also worked on the funeral committee. She was a leader of the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts when her children were young. Barbara was an active member of the Democratic Party and served on the Board of Directors at the Pioneer House in Lincoln. Barbara is survived by: Son: Rick (Nancy) Nelson of Altoona, IA. Granddaughters: Sheila (Mike) Sloup of Columbus; Michelle (John) Sauberzweik Paro of Newark, OH; Katie (Alan) Kriegler of Lincoln. Grandsons: Jason Nelson of Nashville, TN; Jeff (Heather) Nelson of Altoona, IA; Jeremy (Stacey) Nelson of San Clemente, CA. 12 great-grandchildren Son-in-law: Kirt Augustin of Osceola. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alice Moser, husband, Bernard Nelson, daughter, Lori Augustin, infant son, Joel Nelson, son-in-law, Marty Sauberzweig, brothers: Jake (Coralee) Moser and Jack Moser. Condolences may be sent to
