Cougars split matches at home triangular

Sandy Creek Cougars won one of two games at the home-hosted triangular Tuesday, Oct. 24. The first match against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley saw the Cougars dropping the game in two sets. The second match put the Cougars above the Fillies in a two-set win against Sutton. 

BDS took sets of 25-22 and 25-10 to win the match. 

Despite the loss, senior Coree Lipovsky earned four kills, two blocks and nine digs. Senior Kenzie Turman tallied the team's only two ace serves. She also accounted for seven digs and handed out nine set assists. Junior Grace Messenger sent back three with one solo and two assisted blocks. Senior Jordan Woodbury led with 14 of the 53 digs. 

After the loss to BDS, the Cougars sat for a match between Sutton and BDS before taking their turn against the Fillies. 

Sandy Creek took sets 25-20 and 25-12 to earn the win. 

For the final home game of the season, six seniors earned the start: Alexia Schiermeyer, Lipovsky, Woodbury, Kambria Chohon, Turman and Makenzie Svoboda. 

Chohon earned eight kills in the match. Woodbury and Messenger each marked one ace serve each for the team's two total. Lipovsky sent back three balls with her three solo blocks. Svoboda also earned one solo block, which earned the final point of the game. Turman dug up 11 balls and dished out 15 of the teamís 17 set assists. 

Sandy Creek will travel to face Centura Thursday, Oct. 26 for the final regular season game. Sub-district action will begin Monday, Oct. 30 at Grand Island Central Catholic. Sub-district pairings will be released Thursday, Oct. 26.
