Glenvil resident Robert R. Asmus, 84, passed away Saturday, April 21, at GracePoint Assisted Living and Memory Care, Lincoln. Services were 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at St. Paul’s Lutheran west of Glenvil with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations was 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to Glenvil Ambulance/Fire Department or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Glenvil. Visitation was 4-7 p.m., with family present 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www. lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family. Robert was born Feb. 13, 1934, in Hastings, to Frank and Martha (Kroger) Asmus. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1951. Robert served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic from 1956 to 1958. He married JoAnn Engel on Jan. 21, 1961; she preceded him in death on May 14, 1999. Robert was a farmer and carpenter; retiring from farming in 1998. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glenvil, Charter member, Glenvil Lions Club, Rural Fire District Board, Adams County Extension Board, Glenvil Co-op Board and District 75 School Board where he served as secretary. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn Asmus; sisters, Mary Greiss and Rose Brown; and brother, Alvin Asmus. Survivors: children and spouses: Diane L. and John D. Murphy of Tecumseh; Debbie J. and Larry Pickrel of Lincoln; Sherry L. Asmus of Omaha; Mark and Kara Asmus of Columbus. Grandchildren and spouse: Andrea and Ryan Adams of Glenwood, IA; Chris Herndon of Lincoln; Megan Murphy of Lincoln; Bryan Murphy of Tecumseh; Alex Asmus of Columbus; Austin Asmus of Columbus. Great-grandchildren: Rêve Murphy and Jameson Adams.
