First Amendment campaign begins

This past week has led me to a whirlwind of thoughts that kept changing by the day, sometimes by the hour, which I am used to during the busy school year, but not necessarily during a routine summer week.

It all started for me last Thursday morning, June 28. I was able to attend a press conference at the State Capitol at which time the group known as Media of Nebraska, a collaborative group of members from the Nebraska Press Association and the Nebraska Broadcasters Association, launched a promotional campaign that officially started on the Fourth of July known as “Think F1rst - Know your Five Freedoms,” a campaign, if you will, to help better understand the First Amendment, which states: “The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prevents Congress from making any law respecting an establishment of religion, prohibiting the free exercise of religion, or abridging the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the right to peaceably assemble, or to petition for a governmental redress of grievances.”
