Carolyn A. Janda, 62, Lawrence, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, after a long battle with cancer. Rosary was Thursday, Aug. 2, 7:30 p.m., and Mass was Friday, Aug. 3, 10 a.m., both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence. Visitation was Thursday, Aug. 2, from 3-9 p.m., at the Lawrence Visitation Chapel, Lawrence. A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, is in charge of arrangements. Carolyn was born on Oct. 23, 1955, to Donald B. and Elizabeth A. (Ostdiek) Kucera in Nelson. She grew up on the family farm east of Lawrence and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1974. Carolyn married Ronald Janda on Nov. 30, 1974, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence. They had four children, Philip, Brad, Sara and Amy. Carolyn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society. She had worked for a number of years for the Little Blue NRD and recently retired. Carolyn worked hard at being a wife, mother, grandma, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. Her children were blessed to see her strong work ethic and caring heart. If ever there was a time you couldn’t find her at work or home, she would be in one of her many beautiful flower beds or garden. She was a wonderful grandma to her 11 grandchildren. Carolyn is survived by her husband: Ronald, Lawrence; two sons: Philip (Michelle) Janda, Samantha, Blake, Connor and Kynslee , Lawrence; Brad (Natalie) Janda, Dylan and Braxton, Minden; two daughters: Sara (Travis) Griffis, Carter and Caleb, Lawrence; Amy (Clay) Long, Trevin, Bryce and Tanner, Kearney; mother: Elizabeth Kucera, Lawrence; mother-in-law: Rose Janda, Lawrence; sisters: Donna (Ron) Dale, Panama City, FL; Arlene (Duane) Alber, Blue Hill; Barbara (Steve) Horton, Omaha; brothers: Arnold (Carol) Kucera, Hastings; Gerald Kucera, Lawrence; brother-in-laws: Robert (Brenda) Janda, Lawrence; Thomas (Barb) Janda, Lawrence; Stephen (Susan) Janda, Guide Rock; Duane Kohmetscher, Lawrence; sister-in-laws: Patricia (Jerry) Chadwick, Aurora; Ellen (Rod) Ramig, Mitchell; numerous, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Carolyn is preceded in death by her father DonaldKucera, father-in-law John Janda, sister-in-law Laurie Kohmetscher and niece Kim Janda.
