Former Hastings resident, Clara “Maxine” Perkins, 85, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, at the Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, at the First Christian Church, Hastings with Pastor Dustin Bower officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Greenville Mount Auburn Cemetery in Greenville, IL. There will be no visitation, Clara’s wishes were to be cremated. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in care of the family. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome. com. Memorials may be given to the family. Maxine was born Nov. 22, 1932 to Cloyd Dexter and Clara (File) Reddick in Highland, IL. She graduated high school in Illinois in 1951. She married Eldon Eugene Perkins in Smithboro, IL, on Feb. 23, 1952, Eldon passed away Feb. 2, 2007. Maxine was a seamstress and general laborer in various factories, retiring in 1993. Maxine was a member of the First Christian Church in Hastings. She enjoyed, sewing, embroidery, fishing, gardening and bingo. Maxine is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (David) Wenske, Katie (Thomas) Weigel and Lisa (Gary) Gerdes, nine grandchildren, Patrick (Maggie) Weber, Scott (Amy) Weber, Kara (Jeremy) Bley, Eric Perkins, Jeff (Kat) Perkins, Justin (Mellisa) Wenske, Jake (Beth) Wenske, Miranda Gerdes and Cole Gerdes and 14 great-grandchildren, Devlyn, Bailey, Merrick, Tommy, Trace, Toria, Zelda, Haleigh, Autumn, Bryce, Lauran, Tanner, Raymond and Annmarie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eldon; daughter, Patricia; son, Douglas; two sisters, Judy and Shirley; two brothers, Dennie and Raymond, and one grandson, Grant.
