Rodney L. Shaw, of Nelson, the son of Ward and Betty Dunkle Shaw was born Aug. 3, 1951, at Deshler. He departed this life on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior at the age of 67 years.

Rodney attended Pleasant View School north of Nelson through sixth grade and then attended Edgar Public School until Sandy Creek was established where he graduated in 1969.

Growing up Rodney had many interests. He was an active member of the high school band, drama club, as well as the football team.

Rodney met the love of his life, Carol “Dawn” Clemens on a blind date and they were united in marriage six months later on Aug. 14, 1970, in Clay Center. To this union four children were born, one son, and three daughters. Rodney and Dawn made their home east of Deweese, briefly and then moved seven and half miles northwest of Nelson, where they have lived for 46 years. He spent the majority of his life farming as well as raising purebred Durocs for over 25 years.

Rodney had been a lifelong Christian and he did his best to make sure his family had a good foundation in the Christian faith.

Rodney was a very loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Family meant the world to him and he enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could, whether at celebrations, holidays, school plays, sporting events, concerts or just going to get a bite to eat.

If ever you needed someone to talk to or a shoulder to lean on you could count on Rodney. He was always there to lend an ear or crack a joke.

Rodney enjoyed farming, gardening, football, listening to music, playing card and board games, watching movies and attending the State Fair. Christmas was always Rodney’s favorite holiday. He enjoyed everything about it. The food, presents, spending time with family and especially celebrating the Lord’s birth. He made sure it was the most magical time of the year in the Shaw household.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Randy.

He is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Dawn; son, Phillip and wife, Tiffany of Hebron; daughters, Stephanie Mohler and husband, Toby of Grand Island, Jeannie O’Conner and husband, Sean of Grand Island, and Rebecca Fullerton and husband, Jared of Nelson; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Laudenklos and husband, Alex, Andrew Shaw and wife, Sierra, Auston Shaw, Traegan Sieber, Misty, Madison and Taylor Shaw, Nicholas and Hannah Mohler, Patrick O’Conner and Sophia and Isabella Fullerton and three great-grandchildren Daniel Laudenklos, Avery Shaw and Jepp Shaw. He is also survived by a brother, Larry Shaw and wife, Charlene of Fairfield and a sister, Wilhelmina Andersen and husband, Michael of Oconto, WI, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday 11 a.m., Sept. 1, at the Nelson United Community Church of Christ with Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean officiating. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson. Williams Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
