Marian Josephine “Joan” (Dieringer) Condon, 90, of North Platte, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 29, at Linden Court. She was born to Raymond and Pauline (Hopp) Dieringer on Feb. 14, 1928. Joan grew up on the Dieringer family farm that was established in 1878 southwest of Harvard.. She attended Harvard Public Schools and after graduating in 1945 she worked at the Harvard and Grand Island Air Bases. She married Clarence Richard “Dick” Condon on Feb. 15, 1949. Five boys were born to them between 1949-1963. Dick and Joan lived in Kearney for several years, in Minden after that, finally settling in North Platte in 1966, where the she lived in the same home for 52 years, until June of this year. She worked at the American Legion P.R. Halligan Post in North Platte for 17 years. As a child she loved popping corn with her grandpa Valentine and family and that tradition lives on today to the delight of her beloved grandkids. She enjoyed reading, faithfully completing her daily crossword, laughing with friends and having her family near her. Joan never knew a stranger and maintained friendships going back decades. She continued to make new friends with people of all ages, many of whom refer to her as “Grandma Jo” as well. She was grateful for the new acquaintances and caring staff of Linden Court in North Platte, where she resided the last six months Joan is survived by her five sons; Tom; Bill (special friend Cindy Irish); Kelly (Lisa); Pat (Patti), all of North Platte, and Mike of San Jose, CA.; she is “Grandma Jo” to 30 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; her sister Janet Goold (Tom) of Cheney, WA., also survives her. She loved her family very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick in 1973; her parents; her brother, Bill; her aunts, Mildred and Margaret; and daughter-in-law, Sue. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Christian Wake Service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Josh Brown as celebrant and Reverend Mark Seiker as concelebrant. Inurnment will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Cremation was chosen, those wishing to sign the register book may do so from 9 a.m.– 5 p.m., Wednesday, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
