Although she didn’t make it to state, first-time speech student Kinzee Derr, of Harvard, earned a sixth-place medal in Humorous Prose during districts at Sandy Creek Monday.

District speech proved successful for Clay County speech students, with several earning medals and 12 heading to state March 21 and 22, at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, in seven events.
