Eighteen people spoke in favor of Initiative 427, eight in opposition, and one as neutral, during the Oct. 30 Medicaid expansion meeting in Grand Island.
Many of those adding to the public record repeated the arguments made in the opening remarks, but a few testimonies stood out:
For: “She doesn’t have insurance, because she can’t afford insurance at all”
Proponents Robin Vodehnal identified her sister as one of the potential beneficiaries of the Medicaid expansion. She described how her sister’s $800 monthly income is not enough to allow her to qualify for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
