Harvard to Sutton Hwy 6 project pushed back to spring 2022 start

Construction along Highway 6 between the Harvard 18A Spur to Sutton has been pushed back to a Spring 2022 project, with a completion date set for October of 2022. A few of the more intensly rough areas of the highway will, however, be worked on this Fall in hopes of making travel a little less rough along the route. This area is located just east of the Saronville Spur, looking east along Highway 6. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS

Harvard to Sutton Hwy 6 project pushed back to spring 2022 start

The Highway 6 resurfacing project that was initially planned to begin late this summer has been targeted for a Spring 2022 project now by the Nebraska Department of Transportation. This stretch of the highway, between Road M and the Clay Center turnoff to Highway 14 South has been a particularly rough stretch of the highway. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS

Clay Countians that frequently use Highway 6 between Sutton and the Harvard 18A spur are going to have to wait a little longer for the resurfacing project to repair that stretch of the highway in Clay County, as the projects start time has been pushed back to the spring of 2022, according to Wes Wahlgren, the District-4 Engineer, based in Grand Island for the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT).

Wahlgren shared that when the bid was let to Vontz Paving Company of Hastings, they were awarded the bid with a window of 175 working days to complete the project.

“Vontz has shared with me that the Harvard to Sutton project will be one of the first, if not the first project the company will do in the spring of 2020,” Wahlgren shared.

So. Central Unified School Board considers expanding school Wi-Fi to buses

Article Image Alt Text

Sandy Creek and Lawrence-Nelson students will continue to not be able to access school-provided Wi-Fi while riding buses.

During its regular meeting on July 14 at L-N High School in Nelson, South Central Nebraska United School District #5’s Board of Education discussed an opportunity to provide internet connectivity on its school buses at no cost to the district.

Students are currently unable to use their school-issued laptops while on the bus.

School buses are parked within the district’s communities during the school year. The proposed Wi-Fi would allow connection with approved devices within a 100-foot radius of the bus. The internet connection would carry the same use filters and password protection as onsite at the school.
