Former Clay Countian Green reflects on 5 years at UNL chancellor

Green

From his time at a research center west of Clay Center to a farmstead near Sutton, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green knows Clay County, a place he said impacted the way he goes about his current job.

In May 2016, Green accepted the position as chancellor of Nebraska’s flagship university.

“Having grown up and being the first in my family to go to college and all that kind of thing– to me, it was just surreal. How did that happen? How did I end up in this role?” he said.

Since then, Green has witnessed many changes at UNL, but his feeling toward his university role remains.

On the final day, the livestock auction means the end of 4-H events for that year’s Clay County Fair.

At Saturday’s auction, senior Jason Brockman entered the show ring as one of his champion animals was introduced to the auction crowd. The moment was bittersweet as the auctioneer began auction off his animal, bringing tears to Brockman’s eyes as it was announced the 2021 fair was his final time showing.

Brockman has been a part of the 4-H crowd for several years, having started out as a clover kid.

He and his brother, Jared, started participating because of their grandma and their mom, Cheryl.
