Ricketts urges parents to oppose proposed health edu. standards for NE schools

The state has released the first draft of its new health education standards for schools—and Gov. Pete Ricketts is not happy.

“I am calling on the Nebraska Department of Education to scrap their proposed sex education topics that are included in their draft health standards,” Ricketts wrote in a March 11 statement.

The draft standards, available online at www.education.ne.gov, proposes a comprehensive framework for teaching K-12 students the knowledge and skills to promote lifelong health. This framework covers eight areas: personal health foundations, nutrition and physical activity, substance abuse prevention, disease prevention, injury prevention, social-emotional and mental well-being, human growth and development, and consumer health.

Clay County’s courthouse is one of 10 Nebraska courthouses designed by architect William Gernandt, who incorporated several historically specific architectural trends into his work, including the French Beaux-Arts style, Classical Revival county citadel building type, and the geographically rare glazed terra-cotta masonry form.
