Board of Supervisors Approve Several Bids at March 22 Meeting

During their March 22 meeting, the Clay County Board of Supervisors approved a $65,616 bid for a motor patrol building from Astro Buildings. The building is 40’x60’x16’6 and was one of six other buildings up for bid. This bid will be for a motor grader maintenance shop in Trumbull.

Severe Weather Training Held in Clay Center

Mike Moritz, with the National Weather Service in Hastings, came to the Clay Center Fairgrounds this past Wednesday, March 23, to discuss severe weather. He has been with the National Weather Service for over 20 years. Moritz was there to teach people about weather spotting, specifically how to determine if a tornado is going to form or not. He also stressed that the NWS does not encourage storm chasing.

Honorees include, back row, from left: Pat Nagle, accepting the 2015 Chief’s Special Recognition Award for George Brothers; Brandon Scheideman, 2015 Rookie of the Year; Tracey Landenberger, 2015 Attendance Award; Alan Quail, 15 Years of Membership; Ty Itzen, EMT of the Year and one of top five members recognized; and Rex Kreutzer, 20-year Membership and one of top five members recognized.

Seventeen Qualify for State Speech is Week

After months of practice, meets, and medals, 17 Clay County students will travel to the University of Nebraska- Kearney for state speech this Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, March 23, Sandy Creek’s Garrett Uecker will compete in Extemporaneous Speaking. His first round will begin at 9:30 a.m., in Thomas 115, with his second round slated for 12:30 p.m., in Thomas 119. Finals begin at 2 p.m., with awards slated for 4:30 p.m.

Relay For Life Survivor’s Dinner Successful, Despite Cold Weather Saturday

Historical Society, Majors Honored During Sutton Chamber Banquet Saturday Night

Sutton’s Historical Society and resident Pat Majors received the “Friends of The Community” and “Volunteer of the Year” awards, respectively, during the annual Sutton Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet Saturday night at the Sutton Community Center. Survivor’s Dinner is March 19

To celebrate survivors and remember all of the loved ones people have lost to cancer, the Relay For Life of Clay County will be hosting a Survivor’s Dinner, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Saturday. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the meal slated to be served at 6:30 p.m.
