Seward resident Don Darrel Kauk, 72, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at his home in Seward.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial. com Don was born July 27, 1950, in Hastings to Don and Darlene (Alberding) Kauk. He received his education at Sutton High School graduating in 1969. He furthered his education at Nebraska Technical College in Milford, receiving his Associates Degree in Architectural Drafting. Don was employed with Overhead Door in Grand Island and was also in retail in Grand Island. He was baptized on Nov. 20, 1964, at his parents’ home.

Sutton resident Gertrude “Gerti” Nuss, 76, passed away from this earth to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at the Henderson Health Care Hospital in Henderson.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, with Pastor Carl Gobelman officiating. Interment followed at the Emmanuel Reformed Church Cemetery near Sutton. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com Gerti was born Jan. 3, 1946, in Aurora, to Carl C. and Clarice (Nuss) Griess; she was the youngest of their six children. On the family farm she found joy in riding their pony, playing with the cats, and especially loved the little terrier dog she shared with her dad.

Funeral Services for Faye Oberlander were 2:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at Horber Funeral Chapel, with Pastor David Wietzke officiating. Interment took place at the Grafton Cemetery in Grafton, on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, at 9 a.m.

Faye Elaine Oberlander was born Aug. 4, 1920, to Henry Kleinschmidt and Greeta (Shroyer) Kleinschmidt. She passed away on Nov. 28, 2022, at the Bent County Health Care Center in Las Animas, CO at the age of 102. Faye was an active and faithful member at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Las Animas, CO for over seventy years. Faye was united in marriage to Raymond Joseph Oberlander April 8, 1951, in Lincoln. They moved to their farm located northeast of Las Animas in 1951. She was a homemaker, helped with the farming operations, and raised three sons with Raymond. She was loved as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Former Pauline resident Ethel “Lois” Mohlman, 84, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, at Azria Health, Blue Hill.

Graveside Service were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Oak Creek Cemetery, Pauline. There was no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church. Lois was born Dec. 5, 1937, in Holdrege, to William Lewis and Ethel Lillian Gates. She married Donald Mohlman Oct. 31, 1982, at Pauline United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death Dec. 28, 2006.

Lois was a homemaker and a member of Pauline United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Platte Valley Antique Machinery Association and a lifelong member of the State Historical Society in Lincoln.

Hastings resident Frederick J. Paulus, 105, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at Premier Estates, Kenesaw.

A Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at First United Methodist Church in Hastings, with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, Frederick wanted memorials to be given to Habitat for Humanity and First United Methodist Church of Hastings. Delbert “Butch” Nuss

Delbert “Butch” Nuss

Delbert ‘Butch’ Eugene Nuss, the son of Delbert and Lois G. (Frerichs) Nuss, was born on March 29, 1949, in Hastings. He departed this life on Oct. 11, 2022.

Butch grew up in Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School in 1967. He worked at Case/New Holland where his career there spanned 37 years, retiring in 2004. For many years, Butch was the mayor of Giltner. He also worked at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island for a time. Butch married LaShara Huffman on April 7, 1974, at Giltner. They have three sons: Casey, Ryan and Cody. Butch and his wife LaShara were longtime owners of the Sit-N-Bull Saloon in Giltner. In 2018, they sold the business to enjoy retirement. He loved golf, skeet shooting and fishing. He was very active in community service and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Butch met daily for morning coffee with the “Dead Pecker Club”.

Former Sutton resident Mary Lou Hoskins Kohler, 100, was born to eternal life on Sept. 22, 2022, at the Echo Hills assisted living in Omaha. She attained her goal of reaching 100 years of age and celebrated it with her family. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Visitation with the family present will be Monday, October 17, 2022, from 6 p.m –8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. The casket will be closed. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton Federated Church, PO Box 306, Sutton, NE 68979. Cards may be sent to William Kohler, PO Box 40, Sutton, NE 68979.
