Delores Leininger

Sutton resident Delores Leininger, 88, passed away surrounded by her loving family Wed., July 13, 2022, at the Henderson Health Care Hospital in Henderson.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, with Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery near Sutton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Delores was born Febr. 15, 1934, in York County to Gideon and Edna (Griess) Ochsner. She was baptized and a member of the

Hope Reformed Church.

Lincoln resident Erwin Paul Ulmer was born on Dec. 18, 1940, at Tularo, CA to Benjamin and Irene (Meyer) Ulmer. He passed away on Feb. 16, 2022, at his home in Lincoln.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Federated Church in Sutton. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Sutton cemetery, prior to services.

There will be a luncheon after the service.

Eileen (Schliep) Ethington

Eileen (Schliep) Ethington

Eileen (Schliep) Ethington was born in a farmhouse outside of Clay Center on Oct. 17, 1942, to Oliver and Clara Schliep. She was the youngest of four children. She attended Clay Center Public Schools and upon graduation she worked at the Clay County Courthouse, prior to moving to Lincoln. While living in Lincoln, she met Ron Ethington. They were married and celebrated 56 years of marriage. Ron and Eileen have lived in many communities and were blessed by having met great friends in each community. They have three children: Andrea, Matt (Raimy), and Robyn. One of Eileen’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, Olivia, Maxwell, Grey, Milan, and Grant. She enjoyed listening to them play in band, attending their sporting events, watching their horseback riding lessons, and many other activities.

David Nienkamp

David Loren Nienkamp was born in Woodland, CA on June 19, 1947, and died in Omaha on July 7, 2022.

David was the youngest of four brothers. He lived in Woodland, New Orleans, Western, NE, Oskaloosa, IA, and Genoa, OH. He attended school in Crete, NE from 7th grade through his graduation from Doane College (now University), and completed a masters degree at UNK in 1975.

He taught and coached for 33 years at Sandy Creek High School (now SCUD #5) and retired in 2002. Following a Mandel Fellowship in 1999-2000, he became a regional education coordinator for the USHMM in Washington DC and worked with the ADL-Jewish Center in Omaha to help train school teachers on teaching the Holocaust. He was an active member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar and enjoyed tending to his garden, yard, and woodstove, and working on his model train set.

Lawrence Lohmeier

Lawrence Lynn Lohmeier of Rawlings, MD passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at Sterling Care Assisted Living in Frostburg.

Born in Sutton on July 19, 1935, he was the son of Samuel and Marie (Ferry) Lohmeier.

In addition to his parents and 11 siblings, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth (Svoboda) Lohmeier, on July 20, 2016.

After attending high school in Sutton, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

He began his career as a military policeman.

His first assignment was in Japan, but he was transferred back mid-tour to Lincoln after the death of his mother.

While stationed in Lincoln, he met his wife, Mary.

On June 1, 1957, Larry and Mary were married in Weston, NE and started a life together full of adventure.

While in Lincoln, Larry began his training to become an OSI agent for the Air Force. During this tour, they had two daughters, Cindy and Kay.

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Girmus

Grand Island resident Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Girmus, 88, passed away on July 5, 2022, at CHI St. Francis, Grand Island.

Rosary will be 9:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings. Burial will be held at a later date at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. A book signing will be 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh. com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Betty was born May 4, 1934, in Lawrence to Valentine and Ida (Kitten) Beyke. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1953. Betty married Bobby D. Girmus on Oct. 26, 1957, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings.

Andrew Loehr

Andrew Loehr

Andrew “Andy” Loehr, 89, of Lincoln passed away July 8, 2022, of COVID. Born June 5, 1933, in Turtle Creek, PA to William and Janet (Fulton) Loehr.

Andy played football and baseball at Turtle Creek High School. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates but accepted a football scholarship from the University of Nebraska in 1951. He played for Coach Glasford and finished his career playing in the 1955 Orange Bowl.

In 1957, he married LulaBelle (Lu) Wilson from Edgar. This year, they celebrated 65 years together. Andy coached football and taught at McCook, Lincoln High, and Lincoln Northeast. His 1960 McCook team was undefeated, and Andy went on to win the state championship with his 1968 Lincoln High team.

Survivors include his brother, Bill; two children, Annette (Kurt) VanNorman, and Jeff (Paula) Loehr; grandchildren Kyle (Amanda) VanNorman, Alex (Tyler) VanNorman, and Sadie Loehr; great-granddaughter, Ashlyn VanNorman; sister-in-law, Dolores Wilson.
