Rylee Jo Timmerman

Our little angel, Rylee Jo Timmerman, passed away Friday Jan. 15, 2021, at only two months old.

The funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Livingston Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings, with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date. The service will be livestreamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s Facebook page. For the health and safety of others face masks are required for those attending the funeral, your cooperation is appreciated. Since there are material sharing restrictions, we ask that you bring your own pen for signing the registration book or memorial envelopes. If you do not bring one, we can do that for you.

Warren Kenneth Gee

Warren Kenneth Gee went home to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at his residence in Sutton, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 29 days.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with Pastor Bill Richards officiating. Interment was conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at the Little Sioux Cemetery in Little Sioux, IA, with Pastor Wayne Bahr officiating and military honors by the American Legion David McNeill Post #0129, Onawa, IA. Visitation was Friday, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m.–7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

Emogene Libby

Emogene Libby the daughter and only child of Lt Col. Frederick Walter and Blanche Emogene Libby (White). She was born Aug. 29, 1934, at Fall River, MA. She departed this life on Dec. 31, 2020, at the Mary Lanning Health Care Center in Hastings, at the age of 86 years, four months and two days.

As the child of a military father, Emogene moved to many different locations as her father was moved from military base to military base therefore had many different locations that she had called home.

Emogene earned her BA at the University of NH and went on to get her RN degree from Massachusetts General School of Nursing. She worked primarily at various nursing homes throughout New England and Florida. She went on to get her BS in Social Studies at UNH.

Clay Center resident Carol Jean Kiolbasa, 73, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center, with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating. Interment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 1 p.m.–7 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m.–7 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Norma (Hinrichs) Richards

Norma (Hinrichs) Richards

Norma Darlene (Hinrichs) Richards was born to George and Gladys (Hughes) Hinrichs on April 6, 1932, at Carleton, and passed away Jan. 4, 2021, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 88. She was the oldest of four children.

She attended grade schools in Carleton and Thayer County and in Iowa. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1949.

Norma worked in steak houses in the area before getting a position as a youth supervisor at Youth Development Center in Geneva in 1977. After 18 years she retired and enjoyed volunteer work at the Senior Center, Blood Mobile, and Arts Council.

Norma was married to Darlo Richards of Geneva on Sept. 4, 1949, and to them seven children were born. They lived on a farm near Geneva until moving to Clay Center in 1968. They later divorced.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva and was baptized in 1997 and confirmed in 1998.

Sutton resident Luella Hunzeker, 88, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Sutton Memorial Chapel, with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment followed at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery.

Luella was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Fillmore County, NE to Martin P. and Johanna Griess. She attended country school in Fillmore County and then continued her education in Geneva. On Aug. 17, 1950, she married Gideon Nuss. To this union, they were blessed with four children, Paul, Linda, Susan and Ralph. Gideon passed away on May 24, 1976. Luella stayed on the farm until she married Robert Hunzeker on May 14, 1982.

Sutton resident Donald Ruben Griess, 83, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at his home in Sutton.

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Inurnment followed at the Sutton Cemetery. In honoring his wish to be cremated, there will be no visitation.

Donald Ruben Griess was born June 23, 1937, in Hamilton County, NE to Ruben and Helen (Huber) Griess. He received his education at Farmers Valley District #1. He married Sharol Schrock on March 22, 1957, in Edgar. Don was a self-employed farmer in the area for many years.

A memorial visitation service for Lamont Larson, 93, of Tilden, will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, in Tilden, with Pastor Melanie Miller officiating. A remembrance program will begin at 3 p.m.

Private graveside services at the Oakdale Cemetery, in Oakdale, will be held at a later date.

Per Lamont’s request, visitors are asked to wear red or Husker apparel to the visitation.

Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden is in charge of arrangements.

Lamont died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek.

Johny Joe Ford

Johny Joe Ford

Johny Joe Ford, son of Verle Leslie and Helen Edith (Fust) Ford, was born on Sept. 3, 1944, in Orient, IA. He received his education from Iowa State University graduating in 1966 with a Bachelors of Animal Science. He served in the United States Army from 1967-68. Following discharge, he completed his PhD, also from Iowa State, and then became a research physiologist with the United States Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center from 1974-2009.

Joe married Ann Remmenga on Nov. 24, 1989, in Clay Center. The couple was blessed with four daughters; Jody, Patti, Brenda, and Jennifer. Joe and Ann lived in Aurora. Joe was an active member of the community, dedicating his time to the Aurora United Methodist Church, Habitat for Humanity, Edgerton Center and Prairie Plains Resource Institute.
