Milton “Milt” Huber

Sutton resident Milton “Milt” Huber, 76, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, with Pastor Scott Henry officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Argonne Post #61, Sutton. Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 12, from 3 – 7 p.m., with the family present from 5–7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton Community Home Foundation in Sutton.

Milt was born Jan. 11, 1944, in rural Hamilton County near Sutton to Harold and Clara (Zimbelman) Huber. Milt attended Farmers Valley school thru 8th grade and graduated from Sutton High School with the class of 1962. Milt joined the U.S. Army in 1965, spending one year overseas in Germany, and was discharged in 1967.

Lawrence resident Chester J. Kohmetscher, 93, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, at his home in Lawrence. Rosary was held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, 8 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, 10:30 a.m., both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, with Father Corey Harrison officiating. Burial with Military Rites by Kent Kailey American Legion Post #45 of Lawrence and the Army National Guard Honors Team, was held in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence. Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, from 3-9 p.m. at the Lawrence Visitation Chapel. A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.mertenbutlermortuary. com. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmie Cox

Jimmie Lee Cox, the son of Lloyd and Greta Darlene (Cottam) Cox, was born Sept. 6, 1948, at Fairfield. He departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, at the age of 72 years.

Jimmie attended Shickley and Edgar schools. Later in life he recieved his GED. Jimmie lived in Grand Island, Hastings and the Edgar, areas. He had worked as a welder and for Morgan, hauling and setting up mobile homes. Later he worked as an over-the-road truck driver most of his life.

Jimmie enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and playing pool. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Alice and Floyd Cox and George and Mildred Cottam.

Dorothy Bissantz

Fairfield resident Dorothy I. Bissantz, 93, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at the Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield, with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating. In honoring her wishes, there was no viewing or visitation.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Auxiliary-Fairfield.

Dorothy was born near Fairfield on March 21, 1927, to John and Josie (Slama) Blaha. She graduated from high school in Fairfield and was valedictorian of her class. She married Stanley Bissantz, then moved to Borger, TX and resided there for 58 years. After Stanley’s passing, Dorothy moved back to Fairfield to live with her forever friend, her sister Lucille.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of The Eastern Star.

Private funeral services were conducted at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with Pastor Scott Henry officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 9, from 1-7 p.m., with the family present from 5-6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel.

Hastings resident Raymond A. “Ray” Schutte, 80, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.

Rosary was held at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial took place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Christopher Kubat officiating. The service was livestreamed on St. Cecilia Catholic Church’s Facebook page. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard was at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation was 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Anna Gunn

Mary Anna Gunn, of Edgar, the daughter of Henry and Mae (DeVore) Ahrens was born Nov. 29, 1923 in Clay County near Edgar. She departed this life on Wednesday Oct. 28, 2020, at her home in Edgar, at the age of 96 years.

As a young girl Mary’s home was a farm house in the middle of a section and she remembered vividly the long, ungraveled road leading up to the house, no modern conveniences and telephone with a party line. Mary, along with her two sisters, Lavena and Doris, and her parents went to Edgar on Saturday nights where her parents would trade cream and eggs for groceries.

Joyce Overturf

Joyce Lurene (Herbaugh) Overturf of Edgar was born to Lois and Beula (Kennedy) Herbaugh on Feb. 2, 1943, in Thedford, and passed away on Oct. 25, 2020, with her family by her side at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 23 days.

At a young age, Joyce’s family moved from Thedford to Sedro Wooley, WA, where her father worked as a lumberjack. In 1949, they decided to return Nebraska and lived in rural Box Butte County and then resided in Hemingford, where she attended school.

Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married George Overturf on June 23, 1974, and together they raised four children.

Once their children graduated high school and Joyce and George were empty nesters, she made a decision to return to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in special education. Not satisfied with just one degree, she decided to further her education, earning a master’s degree in advanced English with honors.

James “Jim” Moore

Hastings resident James Russell “Jim” Moore, 88, passed from this life Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at Azria Health Broadwell in Grand Island.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with Pastor Greg Lindenberger officiating. Interment followed at the Ong Cemetery in Ong. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimers Association.

Margaret “Marge” Ham

Sutton resident Margaret “Marge” E. Ham, 89, passed away Tuesday Oct. 20, 2020, at her home in Sutton.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment followed at the United Methodist Cemetery near Saronville. Visitation took place Friday, from 1 – 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 – 7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Margaret E. (McBride) Ham was born in Hastings, to Hugh and Mary (Henderson) McBride on Jan. 7, 1931. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1948.

On Aug. 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Kendall Ham. To this union, three children were born: Donald, Richard and Teresa.
