JOHN PATRICK BOTTORF

John Patrick (Pat) Bottorf was born on June 10, 1942, in Belleville, KS, to John A. Bottorf and Beulah M. Bottorf. He departed this life Dec. 12, 2015, at the age of 73 years in Las Vegas, NV, after suffering heart failure. Pat’s early years were spent in Sutton, NE, with his family. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Bottorf and Beulah M. Bottorf. Surviving him are two brothers and their wives: Bill and Shirley Bottorf and Don and Linda Bottorf, along with their families. In May 1960, Pat graduated from Sutton High School. In June 1964, he graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, with as B.S. in Elementary Education. June 17, 1962, he married Nancy Ann Schmidt. They moved to Lincoln, NE, where Pat completed his Bachelor’s Degree. Upon graduation, they moved to Omaha, NE, where Pat accepted a position with JC Penney, Inc. Both daughters, Monica Lynn Elertson and Kimberly Sue Mangino, were born in Omaha, NE.

Stewart Allen Pomeroy

Stewart Allen Pomeroy was born on April 26, 1920, to Clarence and Gladys (Stewart) Pomeroy in Spring Ranch, NE. He had three sisters: Betty, Kathryn and Gladys Ann and one brother, Thomas. He grew up in Nebraska and graduated high school in Fairfield, NE, in 1939. He served our country in the Army Air Corps from 1941- 45, mostly at Turner Field in Albany, GA. On Sept. 7, 1943, he married the love of his life, Artie Rose Shaw. A daughter, Mary Linda, was born at Turner Field in 1944. In 1945, they moved back to Clay County, NE, and began farming. Two children, Dale and Connie, soon followed. In 1959, the family moved to Othello, WA, and farmed there until Stewart's retirement. In Othello, Stewart served on  farming organization boards, such as the Adams County Weed Board and the Soil Conservation District. Stewart was also very active in the churches he attended.

Terry L. Bullock

Former Hastings resident, Terry L. Bullock, 69, passed away Fri d a y , Dec.r 11, 2015, at Bryan Medical Center West , Lincoln, NE. Services will be Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, 10:30 a.m., at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings , with Pastor Brett Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery, Edgar. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, 9 a.m.–8 p.m., with family present 6–8 p.m., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family. Terry was born July 7, 1946, in Deshler, NE, to Charles and Helen (Hammond) Bullock. He graduated from Fairfield High School. Terry married Vicky Skarin on Jan. 18, 1994, in Reno, NV.

Gary Dale Pofahl

Gary Dale Pofahl, (of Nelson, NE) the son of Shirley C. (McLaughlin) and Walter Emil Pofahl, was born March 21, 1948, at Albion, NE. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE, at the age of 67 years, eight months and 11 days. Gary moved as a young boy with his parents to Edgar, where he attended the Edgar schools. He graduated from Sutton High School with the class of 1966. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his discharge from service, Gary moved to Hastings, NE, where he was employed as a truck driver for various transportation companies. He later started his own trucking company. In 1997, he moved to Angus, NE to make his home. In his leisure time, he enjoyed attending car races, watching football and collecting antique cars. He was very mechanically adept at working on engines and always enjoyed helping out friends.

Ronald “Ronnie” Schwindt

Ronald “Ronnie” Schwindt, 74, of Harvard, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard. Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the Harvard United Church Of Christ, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Visitation was Monday from 6:30- 8 p.m., also at the Harvard United Church of Christ in Harvard. Burial was in the Harvard Cemetery. Ronnie was born on February 20, 1941, in Davenport, IA, to John and Florence Christensen Schwindt. Ronnie was baptized on April 1, 1945, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA. He was confirmed April 3, 1955, in Harvard United Church of Christ. Ronnie attended schools in Durant, IA, and also Royal and Harvard, NE. He was employed at Morrison-Quirk in Hastings and Hastings Pork. He later mowed yards in Harvard. Ronnie’s hobbies were all sports. He was Harvard’s number “one” fan who even has his own engraved seat in the gymnasium; which he proudly used for all school functions.

LOUISE STEVENS

Former Sutton resident, Louise Stevens, 96, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at Holmes Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center, Lincoln, NE. Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE, with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery.  Visitation was Tuesday, from 1–8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Condolences may be left atwww.suttonmemorial.com Louise was born Nov. 19, 1919, to William F. and Wilhelminia (Griess) Hofmann on the family farm in Fillmore County. Louise attended rural school till completing an eighth grade education, at that point, she was needed to help with the farming operation during the Great Depression. She was baptized and confirmed in the Free German Reformed Salem Church, where she was a lifelong member.

GARY L. BRENNFOERDER

Gary Lee Brennfoerder, oldest son of Arthur and Evelyn (Ruhga) Brennfoerder, was born in Clay Center, NE on Sept. 9, 1943. He departed this life the evening of Nov. 12, 2015, at the age of 72 yrs. He went to school east of their home and graduated from Nelson High School in 1961. He obeyed Christ as his Savior and was baptized for the remission of his sins in July of 1957. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Daly, on March 26, 1964. Four children came to bless their home. They all became members of the Church of Christ. They lived on a farm near Edgar until they moved to town in 1998. He farmed between Edgar and Fairfield for most of his life, as he loved the land and enjoyed planting and the resulting harvest. He also enjoyed tractor pulling for nearly 35 years. He was preceded in death by his mother in 2015, and father in 1973, sister-in-law and niece.

JAMES TOPHAM

James Topham, age 78, of Harvard, formerly of Aurora, passeda way on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard. A memorial service will be held at later date. Inurnment will be at Aurora Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harvard Rest Have n or the American Legion Post #61 of Sutton. James Harold Topham, the son of Fredrick and Minnie (Wright) Topham, was born at Giltner, NE on July 7, 1937. Jim grew up in Aurora and attended Aurora Public Schools. He served his country in the United States Navy from January of 1956 until September of 1957. Following his discharge he returned back to Aurora and worked for Cargill until 1967.
