Margaret “Marge” Ham

Margaret “Marge” Ham

Sutton resident Margaret “Marge” E. Ham, 89, passed away Tuesday Oct. 20, 2020, at her home in Sutton.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment followed at the United Methodist Cemetery near Saronville. Visitation took place Friday, from 1 – 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 – 7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Margaret E. (McBride) Ham was born in Hastings, to Hugh and Mary (Henderson) McBride on Jan. 7, 1931. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1948.

On Aug. 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Kendall Ham. To this union, three children were born: Donald, Richard and Teresa.

Howard Brewster

Former Clay Center resident Howard Arlen Brewster, 86, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.

Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, with Pastor Arick Johanson officiating. Visitation was held Thursday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Condolences may be left at www.mclaughlinchapel.com Howard Arlen Brewster was born July 22, 1934, in Scandia, KS to Cleo and Ruth (Davis) Brewster. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1953. Howard went on to meet and later marry his soul mate, Kay Thomas, at the Clay Center Christian Church on June 23, 1954. To this union three children, Tom, Connie, and Tim were born.

Ralph B. Roseberg

Ralph B. Roseberg

Ralph B. Roseberg, age 71, passed away at his home in Lewiston, ID on Oct. 8, 2020. He was born on July 4, 1949, in Wahoo, to Hilmer and Annetta (Griess) Roseberg. Ralph attended school in Ceresco before moving to Sutton with his mother, following the death of his father. He was confirmed in the Saronville Lutheran Church and graduated from Sutton High School in 1967. He went on to graduate from Nebraska Wesleyan with a degree in Biology and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas. Ralph was a Fisheries Biologist with the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife at the Clearwater Fish Hatchery in Ahsahka, ID until his retirement.

Sutton resident Max “Fuzz” Joseph Leininger, 95, returned home to his loving Father on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, with Father Michael Zimmer officiating. Services will be live-streamed from www. stmaryssutton.org. Masks will be required at the services. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sutton. Visitation will be Monday, from 1 p.m.–5 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel.

Travis Bailey

Travis Lee Bailey, Fairfield, the son of Rex O. and Dawn (Stratman) Bailey, was born Jan. 13, 1975 at Hastings. He went to his heavenly home on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020, at the home of his parents in Fairfield, surrounded by his family, at the age of 45 years, succumbing to a long battle with cancer.

Travis graduated from Sandy Creek High School at Fairfield and attended Hastings Community College. He had been employed at Ken and Al’s Service Station in Fairfield and in 2000 started working for Shuck Drilling in Edgar. Travis became the well driller. He enjoyed his job, the people he worked with and the customers he worked for.

Sutton resident Thomas Nuss, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at Legacy Square in Henderson.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, with Pastor Carl Gobelman officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, from 1 p.m.–8 p.m., with the family present from 4 p.m.–6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

Thomas (Tom) Nuss was born on Dec. 16, 1930, to Hilmar and Hilda (Griess) Nuss at his parent’s home north of Sutton. He was the third child out of eleven. He received his education at a country school until the 8th grade when he quit school to help on the family farm. Tom was married to Leola Griess on April 26, 1951, at her parent’s home north of Sutton.

Ronald “Ron” Bickford

Ronald “Ron” Bickford, 85, of Grand Island passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, at CHI-Health St. Francis surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020, at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at Trinity United Methodist Church in the sanctuary. Pastor Kalaba Kapundu will officiate.

All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be designated to the family with plans for donations to be used for improvements at George Park.

Ron was born on Dec. 13, 1934, in Kearney, son of Grant and Dorothy (Chamberlin) Bickford.

Ron was raised in Kearney where he graduated from high school and from Kearney State Teaching College.

Hastings resident, Ruth Carol (Bishoff) Schmer, 95, passed away on Sept. 28, 2020, at her home at the Regency in Hastings.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. at the Harvard Cemetery in Harvard on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Apfel Funeral Home of Hastings was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.apfelfuneralhome. com.

Ruth was born on Dec. 19, 1924, to Albert and Johanna (Stedt) Bishoff on a farm north of Harvard. She was baptized in infancy at the Congregational Church in Harvard, she later joined the church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, directed the junior choir and sang in the senior choir. This church is now part of the Harvard United Church of Christ where she was a member.

Margaretha Ann Holland

Margaretha Ann Holland

Margaretha (Mickey) Ann Holland, 95, of Grafton, passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020. Mickey was born Dec. 25, 1924, to John and Martha Bruning. After graduating Harvard High School, she taught in a one-room school in the area. Later she moved to Lincoln and worked for many years at the Elgin Watch Factory. She married the love of her life Mayo Holland in 1954 and in the early ‘60s moved to Grafton to raise their family. They were blessed with six children. Mickey retired from the Grafton Public School where she spent many years cooking for her beloved students.

Mickey is survived by her son, Mike; daughters, Murd (Danny), Jessie (Don), and Rose; son-in-law, Rollie; sister, Gloria; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mickey is preceded in death by her husband, Mayo; daughters, Linda and Roxann (Ann); sister, Marge; and brothers, Eugene and Bernard.
