Darrel Downing Rippeteau

Darrel Downing Rippeteau, D e l ray Beach, FL., passed away peacefully amidst relatives Monday, Feb. 8, 2016. He had celebrated his 99th birthday on Jan. 14, 2016. Born in 1917, to Claude Laverne and Eva Downing Rippeteau in Clay Center, he became a prominent architect in the U.S. Northeast, operating from Watertown and Syracuse, N.Y., with his firm designing schools and public buildings, such as the NYS Justice Building on the Empire State Campus in Albany. In 1939, he married Donna Doris Hiatt of Odell, a UNL graduate. They were married almost 50 years when Donna passed in 1988. Mr. Rippeteau graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Architecture with a BA, in 1941, and was commissioned a second lieutenant, going on active duty in 1942. He taught artillery at Ft Sill, OK., was later the XO of the ghost armies unit of WWII (now declassified; described in P. Gerard's book "Secret Soldiers", Dutton 2002) at Pine Camp, now Ft.

Ruth N. Aumiller

Harvard resident Ruth N. Aumiller, 84, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE. Services will be Thursday, March 24, 2016, 10 a.m., at Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene, Hastings, with Pastor John Whitsett officiating. Burial will be at the Harvard Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family. Visitation was Wednesday, March 23, 2016, 2–9 p.m., with family present 7–9 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Ruth was born July 11, 1931, in Liberty, TN., to Jim and John-Ann (Spurlock) Adamson. She married Vearle Aumiller; he preceded her in death in 1988. Ruth was an Avon representative and a member of Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene.

LARRY DRIEWER

Larry Driewer, age 60, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 19, at Zion Lutheran Church northeast of Hampton. Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate . Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery . Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Higby- McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora . Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Hampton Lutheran Schools. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.  Larry Allen Driewer, the son of Lewis and Evelyn (Rathje) Driewer, was born in York, NE, on Aug. 3, 1955. He grew up in Hampton and attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Hampton High School. Larry attended University of Nebraska at Lincoln for one year. Larry was united in marriage to Janet K . Griess on July 30, 1988, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton. Larry was a farmer and a welder.

Harvard resident, Kenneth W. Porter, 62, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at his home. Services were Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., at Harvard United Church of Christ, Harvard, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Burial was in Harvard Cemetery, Harvard. Kenneth married Cindy Conklin on June 14, 1975, at Harvard United Church of Christ. He worked as a leadman at Flowserve in Hastings.

RONALD G. JURANEK

Ronald Gene Juranek, left this life peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at his home in Fairfield, NE, surrounded by his family. He had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and was undergoing treatment at the time of his death. Ronald , the first-born child of John and Florence (Artrup) Juranek, was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Fairfield. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1952. On Oct. 9, 1953, Ron's 19th birthday, he married the love of his life, Betty Ann McCullar. They were married for over 61 years. To this union, three children were born, Randy, Joni and Dale. Their children all lived within 20 miles of Fairfield and would come visit their parents' home every Sunday afternoon, where they would sit around the dining table laughing and reminiscing. Ron said his children's visit were the highlight of his week.

WILFORD A. LEACH

Wilford Albert Leach was born in Hyannis, NE, Oct. 9, 1924, to Bert and Dagmar (Jensen) Leach. He passed away on Feb. 26, 2016, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE. Wilford grew up on the family ranch near Arthur, NE. In 1941, the family moved to a ranch south of Johnstown, NE. Wilford graduated from Ainsworth High School with the class of 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy Air Corps in July 1943, as a B-24 Liberator gunner. When he returned home, he engaged in ranching and farming at the family ranch. Doris Jean Botsford was Wilford’s high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Being a man of few words, when he was home on leave from the Navy, he handed Doris a box. When she opened it and saw a ring inside, she said "Does this mean you want to get married?" They were married as soon as he returned from the war on June 26, 1946. Four sons were born to this union, Jerry, Gary, Lanny and Bert.

LORETTA A. SADDLER

Hastings resident Loretta Ann Saddler, 73, passed away Thurs., March 3, 2016, at her home. Services were Monday., March 7, 2016, 10:30 a.m., at Evangelical Free Church, Hastings, with Pastor Jay Towell officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull. She graduated from Clay Center High School and college, where she received her degree in dental assisting. Loretta married Ronald Saddler on April 21, 1963, at the Clay Center Christian Church.

KATHRYN C. BISHOFF

Kathryn (Cotty) Bishoff, 91, of Harvard, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard. Rosary was held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harvard, with Father Julius Tvrdy officiating. Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday, at 4 p.m., also at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial was in the Harvard Cemetery. She was born on March 4, 1924, in Harvard, NE, to Frank and Irene Sutton Bishoff. Kathryn was employed as the Harvard Public Schools school secretary for 47 years, from 1943–90. She was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harvard. Survivors include many cousins. Preceding her in death are her parents, Frank and Irene Sutton Bishoff. Also preceding are three sisters, Velma Bishoff, Regina Bishoff and Claudia Bishoff. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harvard.
