Florine Iverson

Clay Center, resident Florine Gertrude Iverson, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.

A private family Rosary was prayed Monday, June 1, 2020, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center. A private Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Harvard, with Father Christopher Stoley, officiating. Services were live-streamed on McLaughlin Funeral Chapel’s Facebook page. Visitation was Monday, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center. CDC guidelines of only 10 people gathering at a time for visitation were followed.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family (Joan Meese, 4912 Walker Ave. Apt. #1, Lincoln, NE 68504) to be designated later.

Former Clay Center, resident Eileen Evelyn Mattison, 84, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

Private family graveside services will be conducted at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, with Pastor Jeromie Rand officiating. A public memorial service will be planned once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. Visitation was Thursday, May 28, 2020, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center. We will be followed the CDC guidelines of 10 people gathering at a time for visitation.

Wanda Marie Cannon

Former Harvard resident Wanda Marie Cannon, 64, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at CHI Health St. Elizabeth, Lincoln.

Wanda was born on Feb. 18, 1956, in Lubbock, TX, to Mary A. (Sapp) Brophy and Francis Brophy. While growing up Wanda enjoyed spending time with her family. She lived in many states. During her childhood years, her father’s work relocated them to Washington, Colorado, and Nebraska.

Wanda spent several years in Harvard. There she attended both elementary and high school. After high school, she attended Hastings Community College in Hastings where she received her degree in Hotel and Motel management. She then worked for the Clark Hotel in Hastings. In later years she worked for Leverage Tool in Glenvil.

Mary E. Keasling

Harvard resident Mary E. (Turner) Keasling, 103, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.

Graveside services were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Harvard Cemetery, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Visitation took place Friday, May 29 from 4 p.m.–7 p.m., at the Harvard United Church of Christ.

Mary was born May 31, 1916, to Fred and Carrie (Wing) Turner at Harvard. Mary graduated from Harvard Public School in 1934. She attended Hastings College and received her teaching certificate. She taught in country schools in the Harvard area and Kearney.

Mary married Donald Keasling on Dec. 22, 1942, at Harvard. They lived east of Harvard and later bought a farm west of Harvard, living there until 2008, raising five children.

Sutton resident Adeline Irene Ochsner, 86, passed away Saturday, May 23, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, with Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Services will be live-streamed from the Hope Reformed Church Facebook page beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Due to the Directed Health Measure, party(s) must maintain a minimum of six feet of separation and consist of a household unit or individual at both the funeral service and graveside service. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1–8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. We will be following the CDC guidelines of 10 people gathering at a time for visitation.

Glenvil resident Joseph P. “Joe” Wilson, 75, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, at his home.

Joe was born July 4, 1944, in Hastings, to Burdell P. and Mildred M. (Theesen) Wilson. He graduated from Glenvil High School in 1962. Joe married Linda Kay Carpenter on June 7, 1963; she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2012.

Kenneth Huber

Kenneth Huber

Kenneth Huber, 82, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2020, in Germany after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Kenn was born on Dec. 17, 1937, in Fillmore County, Nebraska to Herbert and Claudia Huber. He grew up on a farm near Grafton, and graduated high school in 1956. In September 1958 Kenn joined the United States Army. During his service to our country, he completed one tour in Korea, two in Vietnam, and three in Germany before his honorable discharge in 1978.

He married Sharon Gerton in 1958 while stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. They were blessed with three children from this marriage: a daughter, Maria, and two sons, Leslie and Don.

On Nov. 8, 1974, Kenn married his soulmate, Dorothea (Thea) Hönig, while living in Weiterstadt, Germany. Together, they recently celebrated 45 years of marriage, friendship and a deep love for one another.

Richard William Leininger, 78, of Ravenna died Thursday May 7, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. Father Richard Piontkowski and Father Sid Bruggeman will officiate. Rosary will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday at the church. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at the Sutton Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna is assisting the family.

Larry was born June 10, 1952, in Lincoln, to LeRoy and Jean (Jugert) Weiss. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1970 and Grand Island School of Business in 1972. Larry married Marcia Hanson on Oct. 20, 1973, in Hastings.

Ray Varel Karnatz

August 10, 1926 - April 26, 2020

Ray Varel Karnatz, the son of Willian and Jessie (Cassell) Karnatz, was born on Aug. 10, 1926, near Davenport. He passed away on April 26, 2020, at the Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, at the age of 93 years, 8 months, 16 days.

Ray was baptized at Christ’s Lutheran Church in Davenport. He attended Davenport Community School through 12th grade; graduating with the class of ‘44. He served a Tour of Duty in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Austria during the Korean War. He attended Agriculture School after he returned home.

He married Margaret Gerdes on Feb. 11, 1956.
