Sutton juniors slide past Overton, SOS

Post #61 Juniors improve to 7-1, win gutsy wins at DLD Park Sunday afternoon

Sunday afternoon brought on a double header of sorts for the Sutton Post 61 Juniors, as the locals hosted both Overton and Stromsburg- Osceola-Shelby (SOS) at DLD Park.

The opener of the day nearly brought on Sutton’s second loss of the year as the Overton Bandits, behind a ninerun second inning, nearly pulled off the upset. A steady come-back attempt by Sutton produced a seven run sixth inning, to lift Sutton to a 15-14 win, while in game two, Sutton used a four-run sixth inning to steal a 6-4 win from the visiting SOS Juniors, as Post 61 improved to 7-1 on the year.

Sutton seniors down Fairbury, Pleasant Dale

Coming off of their big tournament win in Alma May 27 and 28, the Sutton Senior Legion baseball team rattled off two more big wins during early action, claiming a 7-2 win on the road over Fairbury May 30, followed by a 3-1 squeeker over Pleasant Dale, in the home confines of DLD Park in Sutton.

The wins improved the Post 61 Seniors to 6-1, leading into a Sunday night game with Dannebrog-Cairo- Boelus (DCB) in Boelus.

The trip to Fairbury would start a little shaky for the Sutton crew May 30, as both teams remained scoreless through the first four innings of play, before Fairbury claimed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a pair of singles.

Sutton came to full life in the top of the sixth inning however, exploding for all seven of their runs in the frame.
