Morris, Van Kirk Wrap up Career’s

Four years, 119 wins against just 21 losses. Two Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Player of the Year honors and in the end, 2011 Sandy Creek graduate Bailey Morris wrapped up her college career with Concordia University just two points shy of an NAIA Division II National Championship on Tuesday, March 17. Morris’ career with the Bulldogs could easily be termed as out of this world. Despite falling two points short of the national championship, falling to GPAC foe Morningside, 59-57. Morris, was however, tabbed with the highest individual honor a player can achieve in the NAIA, earning the Division II National Player of the Year. In addition, Morris was also named an NAIA All-American for the second straight year for her play on the court both as a junior and senior. What Morris did during her four years at Concordia was nothing short of amazing.

Fillies Fourth at State, End Year at 23-6

The Sutton Fillies capped a huge season on the hardwood this year, with a fourth place finish in the Class C-2 state tournament and finishing their season with an impressive 23-6 record, while gaining the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament title and by winning both the C2-3 Sub-District tournament and the C2-2 District championship. Led by five seniors in Savannah Schurman, Delaney Lemkau, Teara Ramer, Alexa Johnson and McKaylea Anderson, the Fillies overcame several hurdles, including an extremely tough schedule in December, as well as, the loss of sophomore point-guard Kailyn Wiseman during a Dec. 12, win over Cross County.
