Sutton Boys Score 127 Points at Home

Junior Garrett Clark once again jump started the day for the Sutton Mustangs track team, winning two of four gold medals on the day, in the discus and shot put. This accounted for 20 of the Mustangs 127 points during the Sutton Invitational May 7.

Wiseman Leads Sutton Juniors at State Trap Shoot

Sutton’s Hunter Wiseman, a steady shooter throughout the conference trap shooting season at the Crooked Creek Gun Club near Stockham, took his shooting prowess to the 46th Annual Cornhusker State Trapshooting Championships in Doniphan this past weekend. He came up big, placing 10th overall among well over 900 shooters during the juniors competition Thursday, April 30. Wiseman was Mr. Consistent during the shoot, as he would connect on 24 of 25 shots in each of the four rounds, eventually recording his feat of shattering 96 of 100 targets to earn him a Top 10 medal.

Lemkau Earns Four Golds at SNC

Senior Delaney Lemkau would account for 40 of the Sutton Fillies’ 57 points Saturday, during the running of the 2015 Southern Nebraska Conference track and field championships. Lemkau’s huge day would help lead Sutton to a fifth place finish, trailing fourth place Sandy Creek by six points and edging out Milford for the fifth spot by one point. Wilber-Clatonia and Superior would lead the team race, as the Lady Wolverines held an 84-76 scoring

Harvard Power Drive Team Battles Weather, Field at Hastings Power Drive Rally

Student drivers in last Saturday’s Power Drive endurance rally faced competition not only from participating schools, but also the weather, which proved to be a challenge with a damp track combined with cold and windy conditions.

Cougars Earn Gold in Four Events at Superior

Four gold medal performances would pace the Sandy Creek boys track team in action at the Superior Invitational held April 21. The Cougars, in the end, placed third in the final team standings, scoring 91 points. Hastings St. Cecilia outscored Thayer Central for the team title, 164-139.

Steinhauer Leads Sutton Golf at York Invitational April 16

Sutton’s Drew Steinhauer would be the lone medalist for the Mustang golf team in action at the highly competitive York Invitational played on the York Country Club Course, April 16. Steinhauer’s day would see the senior wrap up the event with a sixth place finish out of 79 total golfers on the course. Steinhauer opened the tournament with a blistering 38 on the front nine holes of the 18 hole tournament. He closed out the day firing a 41, to finish with an impressive 79. Beatrice golfer Kyle Murray led all golfers with a 71, after shooting a 35 on the front nine and a 36 to end the tournament. The Orangemen would hold off Bishop Neumann for the team title by four strokes, 325-329. Sutton wrapped up the tournament  n eighth place in the team race, carding a 358 for the day.

Hansen, Field Events Spur Cougars to Third at Heartland

A strong showing in the field events, along with two runner-up finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter relays and a big day from junior Corbin Hansen, fueled the Sandy Creek boys track team to a third place finish at the 2015 Heartland Invitational in Henderson, April 14. The field events produced six medal performances for the Cougars, including two gold medals, with another huge day in the triple jump for senior Brendan Lipovsky, and a big win for junior Brook Svoboda in the discus. .

Harvard Relay Teams Pace Team at Heartland Meet

The Harvard girls track team, paced by runner-up titles in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter relays, would battle it out on the Heartland High School oval April 14, and return home with the two runner-up finishes in the relays, along with four individual medals. In all, the Lady Cardinals would tally 25 points in the meet. The 3,200 meter relay team, made up by Carleigh Novak, Kelsey Griess, Alyssa Novak and Cassie Roberts, fell a mere onetenth of a second short of the event title.

Sutton Alumni Hosts Annual Tournaments

A total of 11 volleyball teams and eight basketball teams invaded the Sutton Public Schools’ gymnasiums and the Sutton Community Center Friday night and all day Saturday for the second annual Sutton Alumni tournaments.

Sutton Third at Sandy Creek

Four event wins would help lead the Sutton Mustangs to a third place team finish during the Sandy Creek Invitiational held April 7. The Mustangs would edge out Clay County rival Sandy Creek for the third place spot, outscoring the Cougars 99-94. Central City and Hastings St. Cecilia would duke it out for the top spot, with the Bison outscoring St. Cecilia, 115-114, for the team title. Individually, one of the four gold medals would come out of the field events. Garrett Clark earned gold in the shot put with a huge loft of 47’ 7,” beating second place Jerad Paup of Central City by five inches.
