BY TORY DUNCAN

“Keep trusting the process” proves to be the strong theme of the Harvard Cardinal football team, as on a weekly basis, as Harvard continues to show that the Cardinals are a force to be reckoned with in the world of six-man football in Nebraska.

Over the course of the past two seasons, in six-man, Harvard has rolled up 15 wins in 17 games, finishing the 2016 season as a state semifinalist, while finishing the year at 8-2. Friday night’s 68-0 win against the Warriors of Red Cloud High School pushed the Cardinals to a perfect 7-0, behind the leadership of five seniors that have driven this fine-oiled machine for the Cardinals.

History of life filled with love

By Ashley D. Swanson

Sometimes when I remember the past, it brings happy tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. Sometimes when I remember the past, it brings laughter and head shaking at the craziness.

I love the history that is my life thus far. Like everyone else, it’s had several moments of sadness, of happiness, of sheer excitement, of struggles, and of success.

Gettin’ to the meat of the fall sports season

By Tory Duncan

After Saturday night’s debacle in Lincoln, and with the addition of our the new athletic director at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I had originally planned on sharing some thoughts about Saturday’s game and Sunday’s news with the hiring of Bill Moos... but then I thought late Sunday night, who would really care for ANOTHER opinion about THAT loss, or another opinion about Mr. Moos’ selection? Probably not many care about my thoughts with this, after all, we’ve been force fed so many opinions that I’ll just move on and stick with what seems to be a little closer to home.

Former NY Firefighter tells his 9/11 story

Article Image Alt Text

BY ASHLEY D. SWANSON

Eleven seconds.

Eleven seconds of cement dust, of tremendous sound, of pure adrenaline-laced fear.

On Sept. 11, 2001, the foundation for many New Yorkers trembled and was destroyed as two planes slammed into the Twin Towers.

Thousands of first responders sped to Ground Zero, one of which was Tim Duffy. On that fateful day, Duffy, a New York Firefighter, was at home on Staten Island, not scheduled to work, when he heard the first boom of the plane hitting the tower.

He heard the sirens, first only a few seconds and then long, drawn out sirens came.

SCH building is concerning

Article Image Alt Text

BY TORY DUNCAN

The process of building anything new has its road blocks, but in the case of the Sutton Community Home, the need is becoming more and more apparent that a new care facility for Sutton and the surrounding area is greatly needed.

As one staff member put it, “How do you put a price tag on resident healthcare and well-being?”

“This is one of the oldest facilities in the area and it just doesn’t promote the staff to provide the best care possible because of tight working conditions, not to mention, repairs that constantly take place with the aging facility.”

Over the course of the past five years, the Sutton Community Home has had to dole out more than $115,000 on repairs alone.

Article Image Alt Text

BY JORDYN HULINSKY

Sandy Creek overcame a tough Fillmore Central team to win Thursday, Oct. 5, in four sets.

Sandy Creek took the first, second and fourth sets with identical scores of 25-23.

Fillmore Central earned the “W” on the third set, 25-18.

“We knew going in that Fillmore Central would be coming for us with all they had,” Head Coach Josey Nunnenkamp said. “We have beat them twice so they did a really good job adjusting to what we do, so we just had to overcome that and play our game and finish strong.
