Clay Center City Council approves 21 percent decrease in mill levy

BY ASHLEY D. SWANSON

After several years of higher levy rates, with the 2016-17 levy being set at .95 per $100 assessed valuation, the Clay Center City Council voted to decrease the 2017-18 levy to .75, a drop of 21 percent during its Sept. 19 meeting.

Mayor L. Wayne Johnson said, “This levy decrease comes from several years building the restricted funds budget and not using it...We’ve also taken a hard line on a fiscal conservative approach to planning and spending.”

Article Image Alt Text

BY ASHLEY D. SWANSON

Going into Friday’s signature six-man game, Harvard, the second ranked team in the Six-Man rankings, and Deshler, the fourth ranked team in the league, shared identical 3-0 records on the season.

Throughout the first half, it looked as if the Dragons were going to add another win to the season; however, in true Harvard fashion, the Cardinals weren’t about to go down without a fight, and ended the night with a comeback 32-20 win.

More Husker stuff, Wiseman shines

By Tory Duncan

Husker fans took another big breath this past Saturday when the Big Red “got by” the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.

Tweets were blowing up my phone from those inside Memorial Stadium and from people far far away from the stadium during what we’ll just call a “sluggish first half.”
