Keeping a creative mind

For some people, doing crafts is a way to calm down, relax and have fun. The other night, I got this grand idea to make curtains for my office, and let me tell you how that turned out. Some nice white, grey, and yellow stripped fabric was chosen, and I picked up some needles and thread, mostly because I wasn’t sure where mine were at home.

Well, long story short, it took me 45 minutes to make one set, and I’m talking about a small set of curtains. I ended up making the opening for the curtain rod much too small, and then I didn’t make the fabric even on the front and back....it’s been a while since I’ve sewn anything.

Favorite Food Show honors earned

The 2017 Clay County 4-H Favorite Food Show, held Thursday, June 29, had 13 4-H members from the county take part in the event. The show featured each youth creating a meal theme and plan, as well as a created place setting according to the theme. Participants then made one of the food items on their menu. Participants are interviewed by the judge on meal planning, cost, nutrition and correct table setting and etiquette. Dugout Days kicks off Thursday afternoon

“Sutton: Nebraska’s Playground” is the theme for this year’s Dugout Days celebration.

THURSDAY

The first event to take place for Dugout Days will be theBreathe Easy BBQ-Chloe Burns Fundraiser, which begins at 5 p.m. Along with a silent auction from 6:30-8:30 p.m., there will also be live music by the “River Bottom Boys.” This event will take place at the City Park.

EdgarFest planned for Saturday

RAILROAD RACE

Set for Saturday, June 24, the fun-filled day will begin with a Railroad Run 5K. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., with the race to start at 7:30 a.m. Awards are slated for 9:30 a.m. Brodstone Memorial Hospital and the Edgar Medical Clinic will be serving refreshments, following the race.

The Harvard football team will be hosting a 5-on-5 flag football tournament in conjunction with the 12th annual Harvard Veteran’s Memorial Car Show on Saturday, July 29.

The Cardinal Air Raid Passing Tournament, as it is being called, is a 5-on-5 flag football event.

Post #61 Juniors win two of four games in loaded field of Class A and B teams in Hastings

After a two game split early last week, with the Hastings Juniors and the Shelton-Gibbon squad, the Sutton Junior Legion baseball team headed into a big challenge of sorts this past weekend, taking on a load of Class A and B teams in the Hastings Junior Legion tournament, held at Smith Field and Duncan Field in Hastings

Sutton opened up the tournament with an 8-0 blanking of Hastings on Friday, June 16, and added to its win total Saturday, June 17, with an 8-1 win over Gering during the first game of a twin bill Saturday in Hastings.

Wedding adventures in southern Nebraska

This past weekend, it seemed like a lot was going on. There were weddings in town, birthday parties, and, of course, garage sales up the ying-yang.

However, on Saturday, my cousin, Hannah, and I went out of county for a different wedding near Lawrence.
