Organizations decorate Marshall Cemetery for Memorial Day

A cloud-dotted blue sky and 70 degree weather greeted about 75 people as they decorated the Marshall Cemetery Wednesday, May 24.

Each of the 100 tombstones at the cemetery, which is located about seven and a half miles southeast of Clay Center, was decorated with a wooden cross adorned with colorful flowers.

Relay For Life of Clay Co. set for Saturday

There are several reasons to be a part of Relay For Life, the most important being a member of a group that is continually fighting back against cancer, and supporting those who are or have had to go through it.

Of course, there are other reasons—it’s a great form of exercise and Relay brings communities together. For those on the Relay For Life of Clay County Event Leadership Team, there are many more reasons as to why they continue to do what they do.

In honor and remembrance

A familiar phrase known to many, with a meaning that weighs on hearts and tugs at memories.

To remember the fallen, Clay County citizens held their usual Memorial Day services Sunday and Monday, thanking those before them for their bravery and their sacrifice.

Wilber blanks Sutton seniors

Opening night action for the Sutton Senior Legion baseball team at DLD Park in Sutton proved to be a hearty challenge, with the Wilber Seniors posting an 8-0 win over Post #61.

In the loss, Wilber outhit Sutton, 10-2, with Chandler Stone leading the way, with a double in two at bats. Jacob Griess singled in the loss to account for the two Sutton hits in the loss.

Sutton rules Alma tournament

Post 61 outscores opponents 38-7 to win wood bat title Sunday

After coming off a tough 8-0 season opening loss to the Wilber Seniors on May 15, the Sutton Post #61 Seniors found their groove during action this past weekend at the Alma Wood Bat tournament, held Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28.

In all, Sutton outscored their four opponents by 31 total runs, to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Continuing the fight against cancer

My first bout with cancer, when I really understood what the disease entailed, was when my Grandma Jan was diagnosed with bone cancer.

I don’t remember when she was diagnosed, I just remember the disease took hold of her and she went downhill very quickly. In earlier years, she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and eventually had a mastectomy.

Memorial Day/Weekend amazements

Each year with our annual race around the county to cover Memorial Day services, I always pick up some pretty lasting and heartfelt impressions...this year was no different.

Thanks to the help of Ashley, Melissa and Jenna Nuss, we were all able to soak in a little bit more of the county services, with each of us taking two services to cover, thus enabling us to capture more moments at each service.

Brodstone to take over Edgar Clinic July 1

After 20 years, the Edgar Medical Clinic will be seeing some changes.

With the current U.S. economy and ever-changing healthcare, Mary Lanning has chosen to opt out of being the main service provider in Edgar, and handing the reins over to Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, on July 1.

Patients who’ve frequented the clinic over the years will still be able to obtain the same services and same practitioners as in the past.
