Nancy Ann Bottorf was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Sutton, to William August Schmidt and Melva Lucile Schmidt. She departed this life Oct. 19, 2025, at the age of 82 years, in Marana, AZ after suffering from Vascular Dementia and Atrial Fibrillation.

Nancy’s early years were spent in Sutton with her family. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, William A. Schmidt and Melva L. Schmidt. Surviving her is a sister, Cindy Kae Krous; and a brother, Richard Allen Schmidt. In May 1962, Nancy graduated from Sutton High School. June 17, 1962, she married John Patrick Bottorf. They moved to Lincoln where Pat completed his Bachelor’s Degree. Upon graduation they moved to Omaha where Pat accepted a position with JCPenney, Inc. Both daughters, Monica Lynn Elertson and Kimberly Sue Mangino were born in Omaha. Nancy supported Pat through his career with JCPenney, then together they owned and operated a successful small business, finally retiring in 1997 at the age of 54 years.

Throughout their life together, Nancy and Pat had the opportunity to experience life across the United States. Their residences included Omaha; Kansas City, MO; Fairbanks, AK; Walla Walla, WA; Marlboro, NJ; Missoula, MT; Spokane, WA; and Las Vegas, NV. In 2017 after suffering a stroke, Nancy moved to Gig Harbor, WA and then finally in 2020, moved to Marana, AZ, where she lived out her final days in the sunshine.

Nancy enjoyed traveling. Together, Nancy and Pat traveled across the United States as well as internationally. They visited Canada, Mexico, Panama, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and the Dominican Republic.

As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Nancy was a woman who liked to stay active. Whether it was playing tennis, bridge, going to lunch with friends, or preparing for the next vacation. She also enjoyed her quiet time reading a book, watching a good movie, talking to friends or family on the phone, spending time sitting outside catching a few rays of sun, or in the kitchen whipping up the next batch of cookies, brownies, or some other type of dessert to share with others. Nancy’s faith was also a very important part of her life. She was an active member of the Desert Spring United Methodist Church in Las Vegas, NV.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Monica and her husband, Bryan Elertson, and their daughter, Amanda Switzer; their second daughter, Kimberly, and her husband, Bart, Mangino, and Kim’s two sons, Davis and Brandon Bauman.

Nancy lived and practiced Love and Grace. She believed that life is a gift and that we should all enjoy the journey. Each day is special and precious. And all that truly matters in the end is that you LOVED. Her family and all who knew her will not forget her, as her memory will continue to provide us the strength and courage to continue in our own journey called life.
