Sutton resident, Leota (Ehly) Urbauer Snell, 92, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at the Federated Church in Sutton with Pastor Edison Toe officiating. Interment will follow at the Ong Cemetery in Ong. Visitation will be Thursday, from 1:00 p.m. until 7 p.m., with the family present from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton Community Home in honor of Leota Snell.

Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com Leota was born July 31, 1933, to Theodore and Lydia (Griess) Ehly in Clay County on a farm north of Sutton, the sixth of thirteen children. She received her education at country school and graduated from Sutton High School in 1951. Leota attended summer sessions at Kearney State College and taught country school for four years in District #8 and Farmers Valley. She married Loren Urbauer May 18, 1956, in Clay Center and was a farmwife and homemaker for their family. After his passing, she married Ernest Snell Sept. 5, 2014, in Sutton.

Leota loved to sing along with her sisters, Salome, Marie , and Johanna. The Ehly sisters had a lot of fun singing for various family and community functions. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, loved the snow, and made a mean pot of chili, her favorite food.

She is survived by her children, Lon (Pam) Urbauer of Edgar, Jeff (Ramona) Urbauer of Athens, GA, Rod Urbauer of Sutton, and Joleen (Bill) Billingham of Wheaton, IL; stepdaughters, Cindy Iliff of Lincoln, and Julie Zimmerman of Aurora; brothers, Eph (Lori) Ehly of Shawnee Mission, KS, Dave (Sue) Ehly of Sutton, Don (Rita) Ehly of Lincoln, Marv Ehly of Lincoln, Milt Ehly of MO; sisters, Lydia (Kenny) Griess of Sutton, and Gertie Schmer of Sutton; grandchildren, Joshua Billingham of Brooklyn, NY, Adam (Danielle) Billingham of Los Angeles, CA, Eliza Billingham of Spokane, WA, and Jeremiah Urbauer of Edgar; great-grandchild, Everly Kaye Urbauer.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Loren Urbauer and Ernest Snell; her parents, Theodore and Lydia Ehly; sisters, Elizabeth (Hugo) Schwarz, Johanna (Edgar) Nuss, Salome (Willard) Reichert, and Marie (Ted) Schroetlin; and brother, Harold (Mary) Ehly.
